The Gables Retreat is a true rural idyll, tucked away down a "No Through Road", yet within easy reach of good major road, motorway and rail networks. It is located in mid-Lincolnshire, 8 miles from the towns of Market Rasen and Caistor. Formerly Hooks Farm farmhouse, it is surrounded by land still farmed by the family. Cattle graze in the fields around the property, and our 3 friendly sheep and pony reside in the adjacent paddock. The mature gardens and orchard are private and enclosed, giving guests and their families space and freedom to relax and unwind. There's something to keep everybody amused on site, whether it's the climbing frame and toy barn for the children, the all weather LTA tennis court for the more enegetic, or the under cover 7 seat hydrotherapy hot tub for those wishing to just sit back and relax.
Just a short walk down the lane the rivers Ancholme and Rase run parallel to one another, and provide the perfect opportunity for fishing, a quiet stroll or a long, lazy picnic.
The house has undergone a complete refurbishment during 2012. Many period features have been restored and retained and carefully balanced with high quality, luxurious fixtures and fittings, to create an elegant, stylish interior with a comfortable, welcoming feel. Open fires, stripped floors, lofty ceilings and open views create a tranquil, calm environment for guests to relax and recharge in. The bedrooms have all been individually styled to create a unique look, with a mix of antique and modern furniture. There are many luxurios touches including Egyptian cotton bed linen, super soft towels and robes, toiletries and slippers to make you feel spoilt and pampered, as well as our welcome pack of home made cake, bottle of wine, milk, bread loaf, fruit and freash flowers. Home made meals can be provided on request and there is the opportunity to enhance your stay with many optional holiday extras, such as in-house catering, on-site beauty treatments, provision of a hamper of locally sourced "Tastes of Lincolnshire" goodies, or a "Gables Retreat Boost" experience with our personal trainer Rebecca Cartledge. We can advise or assist you in booking any of these, or even book them directly for you.
The property is located 8 miles from Market Rasen, and by clicking on our website, you'll find more details of the wide variety of local attractions on our doorstep. For example, a race night at Market Rasen Racecourse could offer the perfect highlight for your group gathering, or the newly opened Lindsey Trail, a 75 mile circular route through the spectacular Lincolnshire Wolds, would keep even the keenest walkers busy for a while. Hall Farm Park and Rand Farm Park are fantastic farm based children's parks, and Market Rasen Championship Golf Course is worth a tee or two (or even 18)! Hemswell Antiques Centre, the largest in Europe, is just 10 minutes down the road, and the historic city of Lincoln has much to explore. With a multitiude of excellent local restuarants and pubs, offering menus to suit all tastes, there is certainly plenty to do if you do want to venture out and explore.

The Gables Retreat is a spacious former farmhouse, with many original period features. The house easily accommodates 11 guests in 5 bedrooms, with 1 en suite bedroom on the ground floor for guests preferring not to use the stairs. 4 of the bedrooms have optional super-king/twin bed arrangements, making the accommodation very flexible. 4 of the bedrooms are large enough to accommodate extra z-beds or cots. 1 cot, 1 travel cot and 1 high chair can be provided on request. There are 4 beautifully appointed bath/shower rooms, 3 of them en suite, 2 with baths. The master en suite has a large walk in shower, double-ended slipper bath, and twin basin vanity unit.
On the ground floor,there is a large, open-plan kitchen/dining room with a brand new kitchen. The kitchen is excellently equipped to cater for up to 12 guests, with a range-style cooker, a dishwasher, 2 fridges, granite worktops and a breakfast bar, the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks. There is an elegant sitting room, as well as a separate TV/play room next to the kitchen, with a 40" plasma TV, a DVD player, a Wii console, I pod/phone docking station and Hi-Fi system. There is an excellent selection of books, magazines and toys and games for little ones.
The utility/laundry room has a washing machine/tumble dryer and a freezer, and plenty of extra storage space.
Outside there is lots to do! The grounds are extensive and enclosed. There are animals on site in the adjacent field, and a climbing frame in the orchard to keep youngsters amused. For the more energetic, there is an all weather tennis court, a croquet set, a badminton & volleyball set and plenty of space to walk and run. The barbeque area, accessed directly from the dining area patio doors, has outdoor furniture for 11, a gas barbeque and a covered 7 seat hydrotherapy hot tub.
There are many luxurious touches, including Egyptian cotton bedding, beautifully soft towels and robes, slippers, toiletries and a welcome pack of home made cake, fruit, milk, loaf of bread, tea & coffee, bottle of wine and fresh flowers. All central heating costs and electricity costs are included. Mobile phone reception is good for most networks. We have WiFi at the property.
We allow 2 dogs to accompany you on your holiday, as long as they are kept under control and supervised at all times, and are only allowed in the kitchen and utility ares of the property.
