Berry Barns
Devon
Shebbear, Devon
Situated in the grounds of the owner’s 25 acres, these two barn conversions stand detached in a tranquil rural setting.
Home to Highland cattle and registered with the Organic Soil Association, the farm produces organic vegetables and free range eggs, which are available in season to visitors staying at the properties. The Shippen offers single-story accommodation, and both properties have been converted using mostly reclaimed timber and display a wealth of beams, with oak or flagstone floors and boasting fitted handmade oak kitchens.
Close to Dartmoor National Park, the properties command fine views over the surrounding countryside and lie within easy reach of the North Devon coastline with its fine sandy beaches. Local village amenities are to be found half a mile away at Shebbear, whilst Bude offers ‘The Splash’ indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. There are excellent sandy beaches near Bude, one of which has its own sea water swimming pool and several of these are very popular with surfers. Okehampton is but a short drive away, with the market town of Holsworthy lying just 9 miles distant. Barnstaple is also easily accessible.
The much acclaimed Eden Project, with its variety of world habitats gathered under three giant domes is under an hour’s drive, and the historic port of Bideford with its shops, restaurants and Atlantic Village retail outlet lies 10 miles away. Running between Merton and Braunton, the Tarka Trail passes along the estuary amid pleasant countryside which both walkers and cyclists can enjoy and the Tamar Lakes offer facilities for water sports enthusiasts. Golf, fishing and riding are available locally.
