About & Contact

Luxury, Multi Award-Winning Cotswolds Cottage

Sleeping up to eight guests, The Chestnuts is a multi award-winning luxury self-catering holiday cottage in West Oxfordshire. The cottage has four double bedrooms with three bathrooms and three characterful, stylishly designed lounges.

Enter the cottage to find a light-filled hallway with doors to the stunning garden and adjoining rooms. Step down into the original 18th century lounge containing the large inglenook fireplace and bread oven with woodburner, ideal for relaxing after a day spent exploring the Cotswolds.

From this lounge, original stone stairs lead up to the master king bedroom with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden and a Juliet balcony. A luxury spa like bathroom with shower and bath are also on this floor together with a second double bedroom.

The Library lounge with 4k TV and soundbar is perfect for movies, with patio doors to the garden. The dining room leads into a large, well-equipped kitchen which connects to the light filled garden lounge, with fabulous views to the village ford and private garden. Perfect for any season.

There is a separate toilet and shower room downstairs.

The second set of stairs leads to a further two bedrooms, a second master king bedroom with double aspect windows and a Juliet balcony and a smaller bedroom looking towards the front of the house. In between is the third family bathroom with basin, toilet and double ended bath.

There is off-street parking for one car but there is also ample street parking.

If you do decide to venture out of the cottage you could take a walk over the fields, enjoying the wildlife, ancient churches and have a refreshment break at picturesque Burford. Try cycling our lush lanes; the peddling is easy over the gently rolling countryside that surrounds us.

Go further afield and there is more fun for all. Families love The Cotswold Wildlife Park, Adam Henson’s Farm or Diddly Squat farm. Go punting in Oxford, take in Shakespeare home and theatre at Stratford, or rampage on the ramparts of Warwick Castle. Walk with the Romans along nearby Akerman Street, visit Chedworth Roman Villa, or Cirencester’s Corinium Museum. Visit the standing stones of Avebury, the Rollrights or Stonehenge. Snap up a designer outfit at a bargain price at Bicester’s Chic Outlet Village. If literature moves you, visit Jane Austen’s Bath, The Roald Dahl Museum or Laurie Lees countryside inspiration for ‘Cider with Rosie’. Gardeners can enjoy the famous Hidcote, Kiftsgate and Rousham. Plus the award winning Burford Garden centre. Food lovers can enjoy Daylesford Farm plus the many weekly markets in the area.

We also have some of the best pubs in The Cotswolds within a very short drive of the cottage. Or enjoy The Rose and Crown village Pub. There is so much to do in our special part of The Cotswolds.

Reviews for The Chestnuts

Meet the owner

Christine Burton

We purchased The Chestnuts in 1998 and lived there until 2005. Today we live a life split between The Cotswolds, Australia and other wine producing regions of the world. Phil is a wine consultant and Chris looks after the holiday properties. We love travel, books, architecture, cooking and naturally wine. You will find elements of these things in both of our cottages. Our houses are peaceful places - full of light, white and neutrals with gardens to enjoy a read and a glass of bubbles.
