Worcestershire

WORCESTERSHIRE

Located in the West Midlands, Worcestershire is in easy reach of most major cities, but far enough away that you can appreciate the change in the pace of life. The county enjoys some spectacular countryside with patchwork fields, tangled forests and rolling hills all knitted together with lazy rivers and meandering waterways. There’s lots for history buffs to get stuck into but equally there’s plenty for families with younger children too.

The Malvern Hills and The Cotswolds

The Malvern Hills is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and well worth a visit, offering plenty of opportunities for mountain bikers, hikers, riders and walkers. The Malverns’ unique, jagged appearance is largely due to the ancient rocks that occasionally break up the flowing contours of the landscape. The Cotswolds are the Malverns’ 'big brother' and equally deserving of a visit. This is the largest of all the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and is well worthy of its reputation as a place of serene beauty.

English Country Gardens

Worcestershire is famous for its well-tended country gardens and one of the best examples must belong to Hanbury Hall, near Droitwich Spa. Visitors are welcome to explore the house and imagine life as an aristocrat, but the real star of the show must be the faithfully-recreated 18th Century gardens. Alternatively, pay a visit to Witley Court at Great Witley, which also boasts stupendous gardens and was the site of many an extravagant royal party. With fountains and woodland walks, it’s as much a site for children as it is for adults.

Zoology in Worcestershire

If you are visiting with children then a trip to Dudley Zoological Gardens is as educational as it is entertaining. Here, you’ll find some of the rarest creatures on the planet, as the Gardens work in conjunction with many conservation groups to protect dwindling species.
