LUXURY HOLIDAY COTTAGES IN WILTSHIRE

If you’re looking to visit a county filled with chalky landscapes, historic landmarks and picture-perfect villages, then look no further than beautiful Wiltshire. Located in the South West of England, the county is bordered by Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

Historic Wiltshire

Wiltshire is probably best known for being a training area for the British Army, and most famously for its close proximity to the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone Circles UNESCO World Heritage Site. The beautiful Salisbury Cathedral, home to the best-preserved copy of Magna Carta and oldest working clock in Britain, is a must for history buffs.

The Great Outdoors

When it comes to the Great Outdoors, Wiltshire’s offerings are hard to match. The chalk plateaus of Salisbury Plain and Silbury Hill are ideal for scenic strolls, or you can follow the Marlborough Downs, a range of dry hills formed on deep layers of chalk. Country houses open to the public include Longleat, near Warminster, and the National Trust's Stourhead, a spectacular 1,072-hectare estate near Mere.

Family Fun Days

From the butterfly world of Studley Grange to major animal attraction Longleat, Wiltshire offers lots of opportunities to get close to the animals. Seek out the local wildlife at Langford Lakes Nature Reserve or the excellent Cotswold Water Park. Head to Salisbury Museum or Wiltshire Museum and see their interactive exhibitions. Or visit STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon, set in a Grade II listed railway building.

Wonderful Food in Wiltshire

Wiltshire is also ideal for those who enjoy tickling their tastebuds with delicious food. For food that is set to impress be sure to check out Rick Stein’s or the Michelin-starred The Harrow at Little Bedwyn in the market town of Marlborough. You may also be tempted by Ravello in Bradford-on-Avon, a sophisticated Italian restaurant which uses fine local produce with classic techniques.
