If you’re looking forward to a break with the family this year, a self-catering cottage could be the right choice. If you have a baby or younger children you will know the importance of well-equipped accommodation. It is also important to consider local amenities and where your self-catering cottage is located. Here are our top three tips for choosing the perfect self-catering cottage for your family holiday.

1 – Check the amenities

Larger families or those with teenagers should choose accommodation with an extra bathroom. Outdoor space is another priority for many families, so that children have plenty of space to play. A well-equipped kitchen will ensure preparing family meals is simple. Before you arrive, check that there plenty of cooking amenities at your cottage. An oven and hob are essential. But a microwave makes warming baby milk much easier, as well as giving you the option to prepare quick and easy meals.

2 – Equipment for babies

Choosing a self-catering cottage which provides baby equipment will make family holidays easier. High chairs, play equipment and cots should be available in family-friendly cottages. However, not all cottages have these, so you need to check first in case you need to bring your own. Packing essentials such as bottle warmers and baby clothes will already take up plenty of space in the car. Some cottages may also provide entertainment for older children such as books, games and DVDs too.

3 – Accessibility and location

Considering accessibility is also important when choosing a self-catering cottage. Cliff-top cottages or those on steep hills may not be ideal for those with young children in a buggy. Accommodation within walking distance of amenities such as restaurants and shops makes life easier. Cottages set on or near beaches are also a popular choice for many families.

Choosing the perfect self-catering cottage ensures your family will have a happy, fun-filled holiday. Browse our range of family-friendly cottages today.
