Romantic Cottage Holidays

Why wait until Valentine’s Day to whisk someone special off to a romantic tryst in the countryside? The opportunity to say ‘I love you’ is there all year round, and across the UK there are plenty of romantic cottages for that just-the-two-of-you break away. Whether it’s an impulsive last-minute idea or a carefully planned holiday, a few days away in a secluded, luxury cottage can be just the thing to ignite the passion and fire into a relationship once again. Whether your idea of a romantic weekend is a long walk on the moors, beachcombing on the coast, or chilling in a hot tub with a glass of Champagne (or why not all 3…), we have the destination that fits the bill.  Here are five of our favourite spots for year-round romantic breaks:

Cumbria

From towering peaks to glorious valleys, the meres and lakes to fells and villages, Cumbria has it all. This stunning part of the country is the ultimate hideaway for couples who love to get out and about, and then head back to curl up in front of a warm fire with a bottle of wine at the end of a day. The best spots to head for are Wastwater Lake in the very heart of the Lake District National Park, renowned for being ‘Britain’s Best View’, or Lyvennet valley, which is particularly beautiful during the colder months.

Devon

Devon is, without doubt, one of the country’s top destinations for romantic breaks. From fisherman’s cottages in the heart of tiny villages to secluded traditional ‘Devon Longhouses’ in lush valleys, Devon is a truly glorious destination all year round. A mild climate makes it just as appealing in the winter months, but to see the county in all its glory head there in the spring. The South Hams district (Dartmouth, Modbury and the Torbay region) are particularly popular, while the wilds of Exmoor and Dartmoor offer couples a real opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life for a while.

Norfolk

Norfolk’s unique landscape is unlike any other part of the country. A region of wide-open spaces and big skies, Norfolk is probably best known for its network of waterways. But hidden away in between those reeds and babbling brooks are some romantic cottages that provide couples with all the privacy they could wish for, as well as some luxury touches for a truly memorable experience. Head for the windswept beauty of Caister, or to Fakenham on the north Norfolk coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Northumberland

England’s most northerly county is one of the UK’s hidden gems – a region of dramatic scenery, wild stories and legends, and tucked away in the midst of all this are secret luxury cottages, perfect for couples. From the seclusion of Kielder National Park and its star-studded dark sky reserve status, through to the rugged borderlands of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland is one of those locations you instantly fall in love with.

Shropshire

In the heart of the UK is Shropshire – a rural region that’s full of surprises. Bordering Wales and with plenty of dramatic scenery to explore together, Shropshire is one of our favourite locations for a romantic break away. The market town of Shrewsbury is a wonderful spot for a day’s shopping, while the Shropshire Hills are a designated AONB region with some breathtaking views across two countries.
