Meet the owner

Robert Griffiths

I am a retired Dental Surgeon. A few years after retiring, my wife decided I needed a worthwhile project, I wonder why? We purchased the mill estate in 2008 in a totally derelict condition. The Mill House, where we now live, even had floors of compacted earth with parquet flooring covering it! We set about the restoration and after about 7 years of discussions with Planning Officers of the Peak District National Park, we finally received full consent for our plans to restore Ashford Mill. The restoration was a major project and was completed in 2017. We have featured on BBC Countryfile for the restoration of the turbine which powered the mill in the nineteenth century. This now feeds green electricity to the National Grid and the mill. We are 100% sustainable! In Autumn 2021, the mill was featured on Remarkable Renovations with George Clarke on Channel 4. The entire project has certainly been worthwhile. We really enjoy having guests to stay with us and it seems the perfect way to enable this beautiful, award winning mill to be savoured and seen by many. We look forward to welcoming you here soon.
