Panoramic view of Usk Valley

Hidden in a beautiful secret valley, two luxury sandstone barns

Little Hare barns is one of the best cottages or barn conversions in the Crickhowell area, offering an escape to the country. A great place to hang out, Crickhowell has some superb restaurants, very good shopping.  The barns overlook the Usk valley with its renowned trout or salmon fishing. We have all-around-walks, the barns enjoy a surprisingly dry location in a secret valley under the Sugar Loaf and misses rain most of the time. Designed by outdoor people the barns are a great place to be after a long or short walk. The barns have a tiled hall way to kick boots off and somewhere to hang those wet weather clothes. Lots of logs from the farm to stoke the wood burner and heating at the touch of a button. The amazing kitchen is designed by people who cook every day, we have everything the discerning cook, plus good under the counter white goods.

With sunsets to enjoy all the year around and dark skies for autumnal nights through to spring with spring lambs racing around fields. A ten minute run from the stream to the barns, up a very steep hill offer a work out for the fittest, or a leisurely walk for all. Ninety minutes to trig point, through ancient fields and past unseen ruins, tall beech trees and the farms stream, an Usk tributary. It is a truly magical place for families and friends, fishermen Overhead  buzzards, red kites, sparrow hawks, cuckoo, swifts and swallows hares and much more. Explore the fields, find your own picnic place. Bring cycles or hire locally.

Downstairs shower, toilet and hand basin. Large kitchen, dining table for 8, integrated appliances cooker and hob, undercounter fridge and freezer, oil central heating, ceramic tiles. Spacious lounge on oak boards, new oak beams, woodburner, not used in the summer or as an open fire, and large cosy settees, shearing bench, ale table, information table, digital TV with DVD. Some windows are lancet. Light glass barn doors east and west, a very pretty lawn and superb sunsets. Oak doors throughout. The Hall Farm is on the eastern side of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Little Hare Barn can sleep up to seven using both cottages.

The main barn sleeping five in three pretty bedrooms is 10 metres across a gravelled courtyard, filled with flowers in pots. Down eight steps to courtyard from natural surfaced approach road and car park. The first bedroom with a pretty hayloft window sleeps 2 in a king-size bed. The second pretty bedroom sleeps 2 in twin beds and two windows look down the beautiful valley and across the forestry. The third bedroom has a sloping ceiling and a single bed with a ceiling light and a super dolls house in the cupboard. All bedrooms here have built in wardrobes and oak floors. Pretty family bathroom with bath, hand basin and toilet. Down stairs shower, wc, and hand basin.

The courtyard bedroom or smaller barn offers pretty ground floor accommodation in a second cottage with two steps in to the double bedroom with wet room en suite with a small kitchen with sink, cooker, hob, and fridge and settee and table. and independent heating. Just great for Gran and Grandpa. We are seventy miles from Pendine beach, where the land-speed record and the first Landrovers were made.

Each cottage can be let separately, sleeping two or five. Little Hare barns offers short breaks throughout the year and when families are not using the Barn, the two cottages make a great escape for couples or friends. List of activity providers available on email information sheet

Meet the owner

Mrs Jane Powell

Hi pleased to meet you. I welcome you to Little Hare Barns, it is a truly magical place, secreted away under the Sugar Loaf. I farm with my husband, Richard, and children and have worked in tourism since 1981, opening the farmhouse to bed and breakfast. We met many overseas visitors revisiting their homeland in the 1980's. Our beautiful sixteenth century farmhouse casting a magical spell over all who visited and experienced the ship-like interior, cooking fresh meals from the large garden, we had time to harvest from, along with the busy schedule of mixed farming and selling milk. Now we offer self catering in two barns and hope visitors will take away with them some of the magic found here in Wales.
