About & Contact

Spacious and full of character for 4

The Byre, originally for housing cattle, has been thoughtfully converted to retain a number of original features.

The double and twin bedrooms each en suite, the very spacious dining area with well equipped kitchen and large living area with double French windows to the South facing patios makes the Byre ideal for the family or those seeking a break in 'a true haven from the real world'. Televisions both in the living area and the main bedroom.

Beechcroft is an outstanding example of rural preservation, in unique contrasting countryside - hills, downs and a ragged coastline, close to historic 1066 country with a multitude of ancient castles, renowned open gardens and National Trust properties to visit, conveniently situated for the open air opera at Glyndebourne. Explore the picture book Sussex towns and villages or spend time on the local beaches. From tranquil gardens, Norman's Bay, the Cuckmere Haven Nature Reserve and the steep ascent of the South Downs, there is an abundance of leisure interest in this unspoiled area with some of the best walking and off road cycling in the country. Local hostelries with good food, farmer's markets and farm shops are in abundance. Fresh seafood from the coast is a speciality.

Located in a superb setting on the edge of the village, with open southerly views across a small lake to rolling countryside. Situated on a cattle breeding farm where racehorses are also trained, the ambiance, tranquility and setting of these cottages has an amazing appeal that you'll want to return again and again.

Sorry no pets, or children under 5, newborn babies welcome with their own moses basket but no cot or high chair are provided.

Reviews for Byre at Beechcroft

Meet the owner

Michael Haydon

Married to Sue with two daughters Cynthia and Victoria and two grandchildren. Cynthia (champion South East Lady Jockey for 6 years) successfully trained the ‘Beechcroft’ horses on the farm and now has her own National Hunt training yard near Frant. Michael left school aged 16, a ‘Non-Academic’ and joined Bernard Thorpe (international Property Consultants) as the office junior. Some 29 years later he sold out to retire from the property game – having enjoyed every minute! From 1989 onwards, country pursuits were to the fore. Farming activities were enlarged and the cottages at Beechcroft were converted as a diversification from agriculture. To reduce commitments, Seven Oaks, the family home for 45 years, has been sold and a new single-storey house at Beechcroft Farm has been built nearer to the cottages. Michael and Sue lived (in all four!) for a couple of years. The return to the holiday cottage business was re-initiated in June 2021 and the treasured ‘5 Star Gold Award’, achieved successively for nine years previously has again just been re-awarded for 2021/22, which will continue for the benefit of both new and the many returning guests to whom we are so grateful.
