Peach's cozy kitchen

Luxury holiday cottages located just twelve miles from the city of York

Bricknell Cottages are part of Pear Tree Farm, the title “Bricknell” coming from the herd name of the now dispersed world-renowned Holstein dairy herd. These luxury holiday cottages have been converted from the old milking parlour, hay barn, stable, granary, milk dairy and calf rearing houses in which many of the famous Bricknell cows were born and lived, which is why we have named our lovely cottages after their previous inhabitants!

There are wonderful stories behind such names as Ruby’s Retreat, Ethel’s Escape, Peach’s Place, Roxy’s Roost and Clover Leaf - why not come and stay and read all about them?

If you would like to relax in a beautiful and peaceful village, 12 miles from the ancient city of York, then these cottages are an easy choice. Positioned at the east end of the village where peace and quiet matters, here you can relax and look out over the fields or take a walk down a bridle path right from your cottage door. This path leads you to the next village, just two and a half miles of quiet walking away, or you can stop off at our village park - 200m from the cottages, and let the children play on the zip wire, swings climbing frames etc.

Complete with a private landscaped area, a games room and a great pub within walking distance, these luxury holiday cottages provide a myriad of surprises both on the inside and out.

Meet the owner

Ros or Gerald Carter

Gerald and Ros operate the cottages alongside the working farm and also an animal grooming supply business, Showtime, which was established in 1992 and runs from the farm office and a converted cattle shed. We moved to Pear Tree Farm in 1957 when my father took over the farm and formed the Bricknell herd of pedigree dairy cattle. In 2004 we made the decision to sell the herd and converted our redundant farm buildings into 4 and 5 star cottages with work being completed in 2009. The old barn and stable are over 300 years old, took a lot of thought and creation to make them into 5 star properties with immense character. They were hard work to renovate but we had a great time and used skills we didn't know we had. We have had so many compliments that it has made it all worthwhile.
