Idyllic rural cottages in Shropshire with a Spa


Burlton Cottages is a tasteful Gold awarded small collection of four properties in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside. Just a few steps from the cottage doors are the indoor swimming pool and spa, complimentary to all guests staying at the cottages.

With the bustling Medieval County town of Shrewsbury to the south, contrasting with the serenity of Shropshire’s ‘Lake District’ at Ellesmere, just to the north.

With understated luxury and generous proportions, each cottage - The Granary, Courtyard, Stable and Barn Owl View - provide the perfect haven, regardless of weather or time of year, for an intimate short break (relax by the poolside) or a full-scale family holiday (the children will enjoy the swimming pool, pitch and putt and the goal posts). The family owners, Rachel and Gerry, are confident that pretty much all needs are catered for, whether you’re bringing the dog (there are hot and cold outside taps for washing dirty paws and doggy hamper provided), need to catch up with a spot of business (naturally, all cottages have free superfast secure WiFi) or simply want to relax in your cottage.

The spa facilities include a 12 metre indoor swimming pool - where you can enjoy a daily leisurely swim, whilst watching the bird life through the large windows. Next to the pool is a Jacuzzi, large enough for 5 people - wonderful for unwinding, amongst the hot bubbles, whilst the haven of the sauna and steam room will help cleanse the body and relax the mind. If you simply fancy a lie down or half hour with a book, there is poolside seating in the 30 degrees heated spa area. There is a massage and beauty therapist on site in a beautiful relaxing treatment room. There is also a mirrored gym with cardio machines and small weights and kettlebells. Spa robes, pool towels and slippers are provided to add to your comfort.

Each cottage has exclusive use of the swimming pool and Spa for two hours a day, a booking system is in place, time slots can be booked up to two weeks before arrival and amendments can easily be made whilst you are here. You can have two consecutive hours or enjoy an hour in the morning and an hour later on in the day. There are no external members using the pool/gym.

Surrounded by 500 acres of working farmland, you’re welcome to explore the fields where there’s always wildlife to spot. Then head to the local village pub for a relaxing meal. Or into Shrewsbury, with its vibrant mix of cafés, restaurants, independent shops and festivals - there’s always something going on. National Trust members are spoilt for choice as there are 10 properties within a 45 minute drive, amongst the many other attractions in rural Shropshire.

Once a cottage booking is made you will be sent a link to our Guest Information App that provides endless amounts of information about the cottages and local area. This information will help you make booking reservations and give you ideas of places to go before you get here, making your stay even more relaxing.

Meet the owner

Rachel and Gerry Mee

Welcome to Burlton Cottages which is owned and managed by husband and wife team Rachel and Gerry. We moved to Shropshire over ten years a go and converted our traditional farm outbuildings into three modern holiday cottages. Since then we have built a beautiful Indoor swimming pool, Spa and have developed an outdoor sport space. More recently we have designed and opened our accessibility friendly sleep 6 lodge. We both work on our arable farm too, which we are passionate about, we are Regenerative Farmers which means we use a variety of sustainable agricultural techiniques to protect our soils and environment. Gerry was originally farming in Essex, Rachel had a career in marketing in Cheshire, we had a spell in Northamptonshire and Perthshire, but finally settled with our two children in Shropshire. We warmly welcome guests to Burlton Cottages, we live on site and have pleasure in sharing our rural surroundings with you.
