Beautiful character properties in the rolling hills of west Wales

Cefnmeurig Cottage is in a secluded location with no immediate neighbours and is surrounded by wildlife such as badgers, barn owls and bullfinches. The words most often used to describe the property are: very comfortable with unexpected personal touches, authentic (it has been in our family since 1740s), well equipped and a very special place. The decor is a tasteful mix of old and new. The 'old' being oak furniture bought as new for the house in the 18th and 19th centuries!

The house is south facing and has a patio with outdoor furniture and a gas barbecue. There is plenty of room for the children to run around outside and ample parking. The house is ideal for family get togethers as the dining room sits 10 and the kitchen next door 7. There is a log burner in the kitchen. There is one single bedroom downstairs with an adjacent shower room. The bed is wider than a single but slightly shorter than a standard bed and unsuitable for those over 6 foot tall.

Cefnmeurig is the perfect cottage for those who want to have a very comfortable base with en suite facilities; don't want any near neighbours; want to lie in bed listening to the dawn chorus; love the countryside and value peace and quiet (dawn chorus excepted); want the chance to marvel at dark skies and don’t want to fill the car with food, towels, bathrobes and toiletries on arrival.

Cefnmeurig is at the end of a no through road. The single track is about a mile long. It is a very quiet road and most guests get used to it very quickly.

There is a well-equipped Family History Research Centre in one of the outbuildings at Cefnmeurig. We mainly concentrate on Welsh family research and have packages available.

Llysmeurig Villa is a handsome 1930s brick residence located on the outskirts of St Clears and a little bit different to a standard holiday let. The house was built by our grand-parents as their family home and it has most of the 1930s features still intact. Renovated in 2014, it is now back to its former glory with the additional attraction of a photographic darkroom in one of the outbuildings. Tuition is available.

The large garden is for the most part productive and in season you may pick soft fruit for your breakfast and onions for your supper. We have recently replanted the small orchard. There is off street parking for 3 cars. One small dog welcome.

There are 1930s and 1940s black and white photographs displayed throughout the house and there is even a WW2 gas mask in the hall!

The art deco style dining room and traditional kitchen both seat 6 at their tables. The lounge with its pretty wallpaper and original wooden floor has an open fire. Two of the bedrooms have their original lino floors - a very unusual sight as few have survived the ravages of time.

Llysmeurig is only 4 miles from the famous town of Laugharne. It is possible to walk from Llysmeurig (about a mile) to join the Wales Coastal Path at St Clears. Once you are on this path you can walk to Laugharne, to picturesque Llansteffan and its castle and to the 7 mile golden beach at Pendine Sands and beyond! Tenby is about a 20 minute drive away.

At both properties we provide our guests with a very generous welcome hamper on arrival plus store cupboard items for you to use as needed. We also provide Celtic Herbal and Myddfai toiletries in all our bathrooms.

Meet the owner

Anne Owen Taylor

We look forward to welcoming you to west Wales. Our family has had a connect with Cefnmeurig since the 1740s and the family built Llysmeurig in the 1930s. We (Anne and Keith) live and look after 3 very elderly relatives but we are still able to be very involved with the business. To support us, we have a charming housekeeper, Carole, who lives locally. Both Anne and Carole are trained Carmarthenshire Ambassadors. In 2007 we won Best Self-catering business in Wales with Visit Wales. Customer care has always been our number one priority.
