Darwin Cottage is the perfect place to get away from it all. An idyllic rural location in the quiet Sussex village of Jevington, yet just a short drive away from many nearby attractions including the sea! There are an abundance of stunning walks on the South Downs Way literally from the doorstep - many of which can incorporate a country pub lunch, a nice café or afternoon tea. Just ask and we can advise you on some routes to take. The iconic Seven-Sisters are nearby as is The Long Man of Wilmington, Michelham Priory and Glyndebourne Opera House. Children are well-catered for in the area too with plenty of things to occupy them such as Drusilla’s Zoo Park, Knockhatch and Eastbourne Steam Miniature Railway to name a few. There are pretty towns and villages to visit including Alfriston, Battle, Lewes and Seaford.
Should you enjoy a round or two of golf, we are fortunate enough to have five 18-hole courses within a 20 minute drive. These include Willingdon, Royal Eastbourne, Eastbourne Downs, Seaford Head and Seaford Golf Club. There are several 9-hole courses worthy of a visit too.
Throughout the year, there are numerous events in Sussex worthy of attending. These include: International Tennis Week in Eastbourne in June, Eastbourne Airbourne in August and the Sussex Bonfire Season runs from the 1st weekend in September through to the third week in November with firework displays, processions and events every weekend during that period. Glyndebourne Opera Festival runs from May – August and their tour starts off in October – November, with a Christmas concert during December. Darwin Cottage is ideally located for all of these events.
The cottage (which sleeps up to four guests), is located within the courtyard of the owners’ home. Guests have exclusive use of the courtyard where they have access to a barbecue and garden furniture. Stepping through the French doors into the cottage, you will find an open plan kitchen/dining and living area, a downstairs double bedroom and adjacent walk-in shower room. Upstairs is a twin bedroom with a family bathroom opposite. The traditional style kitchen is fully fitted featuring dual fuel oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The property is centrally heated with hot water on demand. Egyptian cotton towels and bed linen are provided for your comfort and convenience. The open layout of the kitchen/dining and living area makes Darwin Cottage a sociable and comfortable place to stay. It is perfect for families, two couples or guests who prefer to sleep in separate bedrooms.
After a long journey, guests can expect to find a useful welcome pack on the kitchen table featuring home-made bread, butter, a selection of jams, free range eggs, chocolates, biscuits, tea, coffee and milk (delivered freshly that morning by our milkman).
Many guests describe Darwin Cottage as a 'home from home' and we hope when you stay that you will feel the same way too. Short breaks are available most of the year. If the dates you require aren’t showing, please email us and we will try our best to accommodate you.
