We blend all the charm and personality of an English country home without forsaking those essential creature comforts. We’ve taken great care to enhance three period cottages and one superbly renovated barn. Any of these beautiful luxury self-catering cottages is sure to make your holiday unique, memorable and incredibly comfortable.

We offer fast WiFi, Netflix and hot tubs alongside cruck beams, woodburning stoves and four-poster beds. At Exmoor Character Cottages, you can expect these and many more indulgent features that make these truly luxury self-catering holidays. We are very proud that our cottages for hire are all top-rated by VisitEngland. Stone Barn, Pilgrim Corner and The Old Sweet Shop have the highest rating possible at Five Star Gold, and The Oval in Dunster Four Star Gold.

Whether you are coming as an extended family, a group of friends or colleagues or a couple getting away, we welcome you all to your home away from home - including dogs. Sleeping six to eight, we have the flexibility to offer a single holiday cottage, or holiday rentals that are close to each other. In our three Vicarage Road cottages, we can accommodate from six to 22 guests! Our most popular dual-cottage combination is The Old Sweet Shop and Stone Barn, and Pilgrim Corner and Stone Barn. In both cases, the combined houses sleep 14.

Whatever your group holiday size, a pot of tea and some tasty treats (even some pet-friendly snacks!) await you. If you’re coming with a toddler or a baby, we can explain how child-friendly we’ve made the homes and gardens. You'll find books, games, DVDs and toys for children of all ages - and if all else fails, every cottage has Netflix.

We think you will find there is so much to do on the doorstep or a short drive away that you will be spoilt for choice in Exmoor National Park. From castles to coastlines, steam railways to tearooms, quaint villages and beautiful walks and views, there really is something for everyone. And after a day's exploring, it's wonderful to come home to one of our luxurious holiday cottages.

Meet the owner

Lucy Green

Owner Lucy bought The Oval, a medieval cottage in Dunster in 2008. She loved sharing her home with guests so much that by 2018 she had a portfolio of four character cottages in Exmoor. Today the team is as passionate as ever about offering beautifully furnished and decorated self-catering properties, where high spec appliances and high speed Wi-Fi sit alongside historical features such as thick walls, thatched roofs, squint windows, large fireplaces and cruck beams. Our properties are well-equipped with everything you need for a self-catering break. We provide toys, books, DVDs and games for children as well as stairgates, high chairs and travel cots. Dog owners will find bowls, baskets and mats and treats. We are especially proud of the high standard of our cleanliness and maintenance. Our gardens and hot tubs are loved by visitors. Lucy speaks to every guest before arrival to ensure the best possible experience. Whatever the time of year, and however long your stay, you will find a very warm welcome in all our cottages.
