Romantic cottages for two on peaceful smallholding

Higher Kellacott is a smallholding set in 3 acres of land, nestled in a beautiful stretch of Devon countryside. Our elevated situation gives us a sunny aspect from morning till dusk with far-reaching views to Dartmoor towards the east and Bodmin Moor in the west. We are in a recognised dark sky area, so experience wonderful starry night skies.

Situated in a peaceful rural hamlet close to the A30, Higher Kellacott is the perfect base for couples to enjoy an extended holiday or out of season short break. Set in beautiful countryside, we are just 2 miles from the A30, giving guests excellent access to major tourist destinations, popular Cornish beaches, famous landmarks including the Lydford Gorge White Lady waterfall, Tintagel Castle, St Michael's Mount, the Eden Project and numerous National Trust properties. Furthermore, Dartmoor National Park is just 20 minutes drive, offering many beautiful walks, cycling paths and wild swimming pools.

Despite its rural location, there are many pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, with ample local amenities nearby for groceries; the award winning Strawberry Fields Farm Shop is just a few miles away. Guests can also arrange for online grocery delivery, freeing up time for rest and relaxation. We also have a range of home produce for guests to order, whether it's some of our award winning home cured bacon, free range eggs, or a fresh loaf of bread and croissants hot from the oven for breakfast.

Designed exclusively for couples, our award winning holiday cottages are the perfect setting for couples to enjoy a real escape to the country. The Old Barn and The Cottage have been thoughtfully renovated and restored, ensuing they are both equipped with every home comfort to assure guests have a memorable stay, whilst enjoying the peace and tranquillity of our beautiful surroundings.

We welcome one small to medium dog in The Cottage and up to two dogs in The Old Barn. Although due to animals on site we request that dogs are kept under control whilst on the property, we have a large totally enclosed field where guests are welcome to exercise dogs off the lead. With Cornish beaches, Dartmoor National Park and Roadford Lake nearby, there are always fresh walks to explore.

Being on a smallholding with several sheep, hens and geese, guests are able to feed the sheep, who are very friendly. We have a number of lambs in March and April, giving lots of opportunities for guests to see them gambling in the fields nearby. New for the summer of 2024 we are also able to offer guests a number of guided Dartmoor walk and wild swimming experiences. Details available on request.

Meet the owner

Georgina Tomkins

David and Georgina Tomkins have been regular visitors to Devon and Cornwall for many years, enjoying family holidays on the coast or walking on Dartmoor, so when the opportunity to move down to this beautiful part of the country came along in 2017, it was an easy decision to make. This smallholding, which enjoys an elevated position along a beautiful stretch of countryside west of Dartmoor, has proved to be the perfect base to pursue a love of nature, the countryside, walking and wild swimming. Having renovated The Cottage in 2018 and The Old Barn in 2022 & 2023, we now enjoy sharing this beautiful hideaway by offering two holiday cottages for couples to enjoy a real taste of the country. Along with the cottages, we also run our Nearly Home Honey & Beekeeping business, selling honey and hosting a range of beekeeping experiences. We take great pride in ensuring that all our guests have everything they need for the perfect stay at Higher Kellacott, whether it is for a short break or extended holiday. We're always on hand and more than happy to help in any way we can to ensure you have a memorable stay.
