Charming Cottage In Beautiful Devon Countryside

This charming one bedroom cottage, situated in a peaceful rural hamlet in west Devon, is the perfect base for couples to enjoy an extended holiday or out of season short break. Set in beautiful countryside, with panoramic views to Dartmoor and beyond, the Cottage is just 2 miles from the A30, giving guests excellent access to major tourist destinations, popular Cornish beaches, famous landmarks including the Lydford Gorge White Lady waterfall, Tintagel Castle, St Michael's Mount, the Eden Project and numerous National Trust properties. Furthermore, Dartmoor National Park is just 20 minutes drive, offering many beautiful walks, cycling paths and wild swimming pools.

The Cottage and its outdoor areas are a wonderful feature, enabling guests to relax in total peace and seclusion, whilst enjoying beautiful views across gardens, fields with sheep grazing nearby and spectacular views to Dartmoor. This setting makes a perfect retreat for couples wishing to enjoy the tranquil surroundings to reconnect with nature and enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Despite its rural location, there are many pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, with ample local amenities nearby for groceries; the award winning Strawberry Fields Farm Shop is just a few miles away. Guests can also arrange for online grocery delivery, freeing up time for rest and relaxation. We also have a range of home produce for guests to order, whether it's some of our award winning home cured bacon, free range eggs, or a fresh loaf of bread and croissants hot from the oven for breakfast.

Providing everything you need for your stay, the Cottage has been thoughtfully furnished to create a welcoming home from home, where you can relax and unwind in total peace and quiet after a busy day out exploring. The kitchen leads to a separate sitting room featuring an electric wood burner stove. This light, airy and sunny room is the perfect space for you relax, with a comfy sofa creating a pleasant seating area, perfect for an evening in front of the fire, watching your favourite movie. A reading alcove, including a selection of books, is ideally positioned to enjoy views over the garden through the French windows, which lead to the patio French windows lead out from the sitting room on to a sunny patio, which is perfect for relaxing in the sun, al fresco dining or an evening barbecue.

The bedroom has been thoughtfully designed to create a warm and comfortable space, featuring a beautiful wooden super king-size bed with luxurious memory foam mattress, which will help ensure you get a great night’s sleep. The bedroom has wonderful far reaching views towards Dartmoor, providing a great place to watch the sunrise. Enjoy a relaxing shower or bath in our beautifully presented, well-equipped bathroom.

The Cottage can accommodate one well behaved small to medium dog and guests are welcome to use our fully fenced field as an exercise area, where they can be let off the lead. Being near to Dartmoor, Roadford Lake and many Cornish beaches, there'll always be plenty of walks to choose from.

The Cottage and outside spaces are in full sun throughout the day and evening, making a great place to enjoy an evening barbecue after a day exploring on the moors or coastal paths.

Guests are also welcome to help feed our very friendly sheep, geese and hens, so please do let us know if this is something you'd like to experience during your stay.

Meet the owner

Georgina Tomkins

David and Georgina Tomkins have been regular visitors to Devon and Cornwall for many years, enjoying family holidays on the coast or walking on Dartmoor, so when the opportunity to move down to this beautiful part of the country came along in 2017, it was an easy decision to make. This smallholding, which enjoys an elevated position along a beautiful stretch of countryside west of Dartmoor, has proved to be the perfect base to pursue a love of nature, the countryside, walking and wild swimming. Having renovated The Cottage in 2018 and The Old Barn in 2022 & 2023, we now enjoy sharing this beautiful hideaway by offering two holiday cottages for couples to enjoy a real taste of the country. Along with the cottages, we also run our Nearly Home Honey & Beekeeping business, selling honey and hosting a range of beekeeping experiences. We take great pride in ensuring that all our guests have everything they need for the perfect stay at Higher Kellacott, whether it is for a short break or extended holiday. We're always on hand and more than happy to help in any way we can to ensure you have a memorable stay.
