Great for groups or gatherings in Wye Valley

Three superb properties providing luxurious and tranquil accommodation for up to 24 in beds and 3 in cots situated in the beautiful Wye Valley in between Hereford and Hay on Wye and close to the river Wye. Monnington House is a real gem and sleeps 12 and the adjoining Garden Cottage sleeps 6. A brief walk across the paddock or down the lane leads you to the idyllic Cider Mill which sleeps 6 on one level. Combined all 12 double bedrooms have their own bathroom/shower room. This matched accommodation is extremely hard to find.

The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquillity and yet is easily connected to local activities nearby and the RIver Wye. There is a superb farmshop at the top of the lane and a great choice of pubs all within 20 minutes drive. You will hear sheep grazing and birds tweeting as they go about their daily business. A short walk to the river through the cider orchards will stir your senses and let your shoulders drop and stresses disappear. All three properties have bags of charm and are a place for all seasons - cosy up by the woodburners on a cold winters evening and enjoy crispy, misty walks or lap up the the gardens and south facing terraces when the sun comes out and enjoy long lazy lunches in the huge gardens.

All the properties are supplied with high quality hypnos super king beds (zip and link) and luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow you to rest and restore. Each bedroom has its own bathroom giving that extra bit of added extravagance and privacy. The main house is geared up for catering and numbers (24). The kitchen is well equipped and stocked and the dining area both inside and outside seat up to 24. To help you entertain and cater there are 2 electric ovens, a 4 door aga in the winter months, 2 dishwashers, 3 fridge freezers throughout. We have a great local caterer who works in the house frequently particularly when large groups come to stay. She has great reviews and really can enhance your holiday and is reasonably priced.

On site there is plenty to do - enjoy the large 2 acres of gardens and grounds which are private and quiet and play football in the huge playing field. For rainy days and winter nights there is a rustic table tennis room and a games room with pool table and table football to enjoy in the outbuildings. Bring your fleece and wrap up!

There is wonderful walking straight from the door with a choice of trails available. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and also on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests enjoy the Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where there is a large choice of walks suitable for all ages and abilities. For those who like to get their heart racing a trip up Hay Bluff is always a must. After this achievement you could treat yourself to lunch at the Three Tuns in Hay.

During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain passes from either Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings often enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye which can include a suitable stop at a pub on the riverbank for lunch. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert.

Visits to the market towns of Hay on Wye, Presteigne and Leominster are enjoyed and for those who love a cathedral a visit to the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral is a must. There are still many independent shops in these markets towns and great galleries and cafes to visit. Trekking with the llamas in the Black Mountains is loved (book well in advance) and also visits to the Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington. For garden lovers, there are plenty to visit including the National Trust Weir Gardens on the Wye only 4 miles away. It has a natural play area for children and spectacular views over the river.

I manage and run Monnington House and the Cider Mill. My husband was brought up in the house. I used to run a National Lettings Department throughout London and the South West. I have 2 children who are now grown up and live in London but do visit regularly. When I am not busy with the House and Cider Mill I love cooking, being in my garden and growing flowers and vegetable, walking my 3 black Labradors who I have bred and being with my friends.
