About & Contact

Luxury, comfortable and Eco friendly home

Just a few years ago Old Pear Tree Barn was a derelict barn and piggery, but, now it has been imaginatively and careful restored into a charming, comfortable and luxury, Eco-self-catering home. Great care has been taken to retain the unique, original, rustic charm and character, whilst harnessing modern state-of-the-art, Eco systems to provide high levels of comfort for a relaxing stay. Featured in the popular TV series Caroline Quentin’s 'Cornwall', this barn conversion with its large, private gardens and extensive car parking, is a very popular choice for discerning guests and enjoys an ever growing and loyal clientele, many of whom have returned on numerous occasions.

Located close to the North coast of Cornwall, this unique little Cornish gem is in such an idyllic location: delightfully restful, with just the sound of the breeze in the trees or a distant owl hooting on a blissfully still evening. It is the ideal spot for a rural retreat. Surrounded by fields and with the coast within earshot, (you can hear the roar of the breakers when the sea is rough), Holywell Bay beach and dunes are an easy walk or a five minute drive away. The world famous surfing destinations of Fistral Beach, Perran Sands and Watergate Bay are all within a short drive. This cosy barn conversion really is the perfect place for your holiday. For all those who appreciate the natural beauty and charm of Cornwall, whatever the season: Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring, each provides its own special qualities, they are all there just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.

Meet the owner

Simon and Sue Hancock

Simon and Sue Hancock are passionate about hospitality and having spent their whole career owning and running pubs and restaurants, it’s not surprising that now that they are retired, that this passion continues, as they welcome guests old and new to Old Pear Tree Barn. They loved the challenge of renovating and restoring their old Cornish barn and creating a stylish and comfortable rural retreat, but now their enthusiasm and energy is all about maintaining traditional standards of hospitality and ensuring the comfort of their guests. Having grown up in Cornwall, they both love their county and enjoy the variety of scenery that is in abundance. Winter or Summer, they enjoy the spectacular scenery whilst walking the coastal paths, wave-watching as the great Atlantic swells crash on the North coast beaches and rocks or enjoying the serenity and calm of the gentle wooded south coast rivers and estuaries or the numerous local walks right on their doorstep at Old Pear Tree Barn.
