About & Contact

Great for families. Terrace river view.

Beautiful ground floor barn conversion with reclaimed brickwork, vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, river views from two bedrooms and its terrace. It has all the facilities with a Shaker style, fully equipped, fitted kitchen with range cooker and American style fridge/freezer, integrated dishwasher, washer/drier. Open plan sitting/dining room/kitchen, three bedrooms (two en suite & 1 family bathroom) which can be either 3' single beds or 6' super king double beds. Luxurious high grade mattresses and upholstered headboards.

Freesat & Freeview TVs, WiFi,barbecue, garden furniture. Large, heated, shared games room with full size table tennis, pool table and air hockey, Wendy house, sandpit and a toddlers' play area with Lego and brio and ride on toys.

There is pedestrian access to the river Orwell where there are some small shell 'beaches' - they tick the box for a 4 year old. There is also a beach at Shotley Gate 2.5 miles and a sandy beach at Harkstead on the river Stour (3 miles). These beaches are tidal, so do expose mud as the tide goes out. Felixstowe with its sea front beaches and amusement park is 30 minutes by car on the dual carriageway - only 15 miles by road.

We have outstanding wildlife to see on our 700 acre farm, with many species being viewed from the cottage decks. One guest described it as better than Minsmere as she could also relax and drink her wine at the same time!

The popular Butt & Oyster pub is 2.5 miles away along the river bank at Pin Mill and the Red Lion in Chelmondiston (2 miles) is listed in the Michelin Guide 2016.

Meet the owner

Hazel or Richard Wrinch

Richard has lived on the Shotley peninsula all his life, and came to the farm in 1971. Hazel is not a farmer’s daughter but has become a farmer over the last 40 years! We farm 520 acres of land at Shotley. We have 3 grown up children and a 6 year old grand-daughter and we live at Hill House which is near the cottages (but not on top of them!). We are on hand 24/7 should you need us. We also farm 110 acres of marshland which are part of the Orwell SSSI which is an internationally important area for wading birds. Richard is interested in wildlife, the environment and archaeology whilst Hazel looks after Orwell View Barns holiday cottages and helps out with the farm paperwork. Two years ago we took on another 1000 acres of contract farmed land nearby though luckily our son will be helping us with this new opportunity!
