North Norfolk Coast and Countryside


Offering Ten individual properties in unspoilt rural North Norfolk where you can relax and enjoy the slower pace of life that is still a feature of this part of the world.

Wickmere is a quiet hamlet made up of a few cottages which were built to provide accommodation for the workers on the Wolterton Estate, the family seat of the younger brother of the then Prime Minister, Robert Walpole. Using Swallow Cottages as a base, it is possible to walk or cycle safely along quiet lanes, and reach all of the North Norfolk Coast and local market towns. Wickmere is close to many National Trust properties and other places of interest including the North Norfolk Steam Railway, Seal Trips from Morston and The Norfolk Broads.

Swallow Cottages have a large enclosed south facing garden overlooking meadows and open countryside within a Conservation Area. There is a healthy population of barn owls that hunt along the bottom of the garden, as well as tawny and little owls, that have for many years nested in nearby oak trees. The neighbouring villages offer several good pubs and inns providing food.

Overstrand, a crab fishing village just to the east of Cromer and within walking distance either along the beach or by the cliff top path, has sandy beaches ideal for young children to build sandcastles, play beach cricket and football or hunt for crabs. Within the village there is a play area, a grocery store, post office, public house and a restaurant. It is within reach of all North Norfolks attractions and The Broads.

Aylmerton is only a scant 2.5 miles from the popular coastal resorts of Cromer & Sheringham – quite within an easy distance for cyclists or enthusiastic walkers. Both are very pleasant seaside towns with great beaches to enjoy and a range of restaurants to try. Golfers may also be interested to hear that neighbouring West Runton has a terrific golf course.
