About & Contact

Spacious, seafront 17th century cottage for 6

Porth Hir, a grade II listed cottage is perfectly located in the beautiful seaside town of Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey. The house is right on the seafront, a stone’s throw from a pebbly beach with glorious, constantly changing views over the Menai Straits to Snowdonia. Peacefully situated on the edge of the town but just an easy, flat 5 minute stroll from local pubs, restaurants and craft shops.

Porth Hir is a supremely comfortable and cosy home with plenty of space to sink into an armchair with a good book or just kick off your shoes and stretch out in front of the fire. There are 2 sitting rooms, 1 upstairs with a gas stove, and a log burner downstairs with a Smart TV. The house is also centrally heated and there is fast, reliable whole home WiFi.

Upstairs there are 3 swish but traditional bedrooms and 2 smart tiled bathrooms. 1 with 2 full-size single beds, 1 king-size with ensuite shower room, 1 super king (can be separated into 2 single beds on request) with ensuite bathroom with bathtub. The third bathroom is located on the ground floor. Guests have frequently commented on the comfort and quality of the mattresses complemented by crisp white, Egyptian cotton bedding.

Porth hir has a long balcony accessed by a French door from the upstairs sitting room, perfect for watching the birds and boats go by while enjoying your morning coffee or early evening aperitif!

The kitchen is very well-equipped and the large range cooker is perfect for cooking up a storm. There is also a separate dining room with lovely sea views, the perfect space for a lazy breakfast or a special celebration.

Outside in the pretty, gated courtyard garden there is a bench sheltered under the veranda, the ideal space for contemplating those magnificent views, and a picnic table with umbrella and deckchairs for eating al fresco.

It’s just an easy 5 minute stroll into the town and there is plenty to do in Beaumaris for all ages. Explore the town’s medieval moated castle and Victorian gaol, enjoy mini-golf and bowling and the happy valley playground in the shadow of the rampart walls. Take a stroll along the Victorian pier where you can book a boat ride to Puffin Island or spend some time browsing in the craft and antique shops. There are shops selling local produce and plenty of choice for local pubs and restaurants with lots of dog friendly options. Don’t miss the Red Boat Ice Cream Parlour on the high street or Central Bakery on Margaret Street

If golf is your thing there are not one but two nearby golf courses in Beaumaris, Barons Hill or Henllys golf clubs. You can even enjoy a wood fired sauna at Seacoast Saunas, just a few minutes walk from the house right on the beach. Slightly further afield Its just a short drive away to the beautiful Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens and the national trust property Plas Newydd house and gardens.

Anglesey is perfect for walkers, as well as the Anglesey Coastal Path to explore there are lovely walks straight from your door with plenty of walking information and suggestions provided for you in the house. The island is known for its miles of pristine sandy beaches and scenic coastal paths. Bring your binoculars for finding red squirrels and bird watching, or try a boat trip or sea kayaking for spotting seals, dolphins and puffins.

Anglesey loves cyclists and its gentle, rolling landscape and network of quiet lanes and traffic free paths make it perfect for cycling. There are two National Cycle Network Routes across the island as well as the 17mile Telor Cycle Tour which starts and ends in Beaumaris.

The simple pleasures of foraging for sorrel and wild garlic, blackberry picking, shell collecting, building sandcastles, paddling in rock pools or swimming in the sea are also traditional pastimes to be enjoyed at any age! But however you decide to spend your time in Anglesey we think you will agree that Beaumaris is a special place and Porth Hir is a truly unique and magical home.

Reviews for Porth Hir

Meet the owner

Lorraine and Jacqui

Porth Hir was restored and renovated from a near derelict state in 2007 by Andrew and Eve Kenneally. It is still very much a treasured family home that we are now proud and happy to share with our lovely guests. We are of course biased, but we think it is one of the prettiest and certainly one of the oldest cottages in the town. We hope that you enjoy your time in Porth hir and the beautiful town of Beaumaris as much as we do. Have a great holiday.
