Relaxed luxury near Lindisfarne and Berwick Coast

Situated in the heart of the Northumbrian village of Scremerston this unique stone and slate Retreat is set in a walled garden with it's own courtyard and gated parking. The cottage is attached to the owner’s house - the School Master’s House built in 1843. This historic village house has been home to generations of School Master’s and Mistresses. The property is attached to the owner’s home but is self contained with independent utilities.

Inside the Retreat …

Sitting room - luxurious and spacious for a couple with two Italian white leather sofas, comfy armchair, footstool, deep feather luxury cushions, sheepskins and cosy throws to snuggle up or enjoy reading a good book or magazine. You will find original artwork on the walls, a unique Harlequin in Farrow and Ball hues, deep pile cream carpet underfoot, quality furniture, lighting and a large sash and case window dressed with sun blinds and curtains in eye catching Lewis and Wood fabric.

Kitchen/Dining area has a beautiful bay window with French door leading onto your private courtyard/garden. This area faces east so makes a lovely terrace to enjoy breakfast in the sunshine Al Fresco with chairs, table and sun loungers. Inside, the kitchen has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, a flagstone floor and French Grey units with solid oak worktops.

What’s Included:

Integrated appliances include Bosch washer dryer, oven with 4 ring electric hob with extractor above, fan oven, slow cooker, microwave, fridge with ice box freezer, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and filter coffee machine. French dresser tastefully arranged with generous quality utensils/crockery/glassware.

Upstairs - spacious balcony dressing area softly carpeted underfoot with dressing table, wardrobe, chest of drawers, full length mirror and armchair.

In the Bedroom you will find a top quality pocket sprung king-size bed dressing in crisp white cotton linen, with duvet of tog to suit the season. An oak door leads through a feature wall into the en suite with rain shower head plus hand shower over a full length bath with steading handrail, hand wash basin, WC, heated towel rail and electric mains shaver point.

Bike rack for up to 2 bikes under cover, (please bring your own padlocks if required)

The Retreat is within walking distance to the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve, the National Coast and Castle Cycle Routeway 1 and the rugged Coastal Path that makes for a wonderful walk into Berwick upon Tweed along a Victorian prom, passed the Lifeboat House by the Shellfish Company and over a Medieval bridge. All our lovely guests have really enjoyed exploring these fabulous walks, then as we are often informed by them, 'Slept like logs.'
