About & Contact

Spectacular unique location, relax, walk, surf

Charles Kingsley finished his novel “Westward Ho!” (the only UK town name with an exclamation mark) in 1855 and it became an instant best seller. By 1897 it had been reprinted thirty-eight times and really brought the North Devon coast to the attention of the Victorians. He also wrote the "Water Babies" from his home in the nearby village Clovelly.

A famous resident of Westward Ho! is Rudyard Kipling, he was schooled there in 1878 he became one of the most famous writers with titles like "Jungle Book" and poems like "If". The local history society arranged to have the poem IF inscribed with stones into the promenade.

The South West Coast path is rugged, specactular and literally breath taking. It is approximately 11 miles walk on the coast path to Clovelly and it is accessible right outside the entrance to SeaDreams. If you prefer a flat less strenuous walk then Westward Ho! beach and the ancient borrows provide several miles to stroll along and enjoy the tranquility.

Locally there is many activities to keep all ages busy. Surf lessons on the beach all equipment and tutoring provided. For the more advanced there is sea caneoing and padddle boarding. Boat trips along the river Tore for fishing or out to Lundy Island in the mouth of the Bristol Channel. Lundy Island is a haven for puffins and other wildlife with tranquil long walks. Bikes can be hired in Bideford to ride the Tarka Trail, one direction to Bideford and the other way to Torrington. For smaller children, the Big Sheep is only one mile away and provides a whole day of entertainment and activities. For teenagers there is an adventure course and high wire centre next door to the Big Sheep. 10 minutes away there is also a Wake Boarding park that provides lessons and all necessary equipment.

Two quaint Devon fishing villages Appledore and Clovelly are within 15 minutes drive. Dartington crystal factory tours are availlable 25 minutes drive. 5minutes drive is a retail outlet Atlantic Village.
