The Arches master bedroom

Your home away from home ...

Our award-winning cottages provide the perfect base to explore to stunning county of Northumberland. With fully equiped kitchens, high-speed WiFi, and furnished to the highest standard, we're sure you'll want to re-book as soon as you leave.

In the pretty village of Embleton, Lynecroft is a dog friendly cottage perfect for families. Conveniently all on the ground floor and with bi-folding doors leading out on to a large enclosed garden; an excellent spot to dine al fresco and for children and dogs to play. Large windows, cosy gas fire and a HD Smart TV complete with FreeviewPlay and built-in streaming apps are perfect for evenings in.

The garage provides secure storage for any bikes or watersport equipment you wish to bring.

Embleton welcomes all visitors with a local shop, garage and pubs serving food. A short walk brings you to a wide sweep of golden sands and for golfers, there's an abundance of parkland and links courses in the area with Dunstanburough Castle Golf Course only a 10 minute walk.

Driving north brings you to the coastal village of Beadnell where the huge expanse of golden sandy beach is popular with watersports enthusiasts. Sea kayaking, coasteering, kite surfing and diving can be arranged here during the season.

The traditional fishing village of Seahouses is a further 2 miles up the coastline where there is a supermarket and several places to eat. Boat trips to the Farne Islands also depart regularly. Bamburgh is also is renowned for its majestic castle and sweep of golden sandy beach. Heading a few miles south of Embleton is the pretty coastal village of Alnmouth and a short drive inland is the historic market town of Alnwick where there is a larger selection of shops and restaurants. Alnwick Castle and Garden are popular visitor attractions.

The Arches is a stunning stone-built holiday cottage in the idyllic coastal village of Newton-by-the-Sea (two miles away from Lynecroft). This dog friendly, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, cottage has open plan living space with a cosy gas woodburner. Outside there's off street parking and enclosed garden terrace (accessible from the sitting room and front door), complete with patio furniture. The ideal place to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun, or a drink before dinner.

Newton-by-the-Sea is perhaps one of the most picturesque villages in this part of Northumberland. There is a family friendly pub well-known for its excellent food only 100 yards from the cottage, and a beautiful golden sandy beach less than a mile away and not too far from Embleton.

Cot, highchair and stairgate available on request.

Meet the owner

Maureen Thompson

Smallburn Cottages are run by local farming family John, Maureen and their three daughters. Smallburn Farm has been the family home for over thirty years and it's their love of the Northumberland countryside, coast and historical buildings that made them want to share this hidden gem with others. Smallburn Cottages provide a home from home in the coastal villages of Newton-by-the-Sea and Embleton. Maureen has always enjoyed walking with her two cocker spaniels and wanted one of the features of the cottages to be dog friendly, with safe gardens but also have the luxury of 4 and 5 stars. The Arches was originally an old farm building and was rebuilt in 2018. Lynecroft has always been a family home and was renovated in 2019. Both cottages are only a 5 minute walk to the beautiful Northumberland beaches with spectacular scenery and local pubs. Northumberland truly has something for everyone so don't hesitate to explore more about the cottages and book today!
