About & Contact

Romantic and dog-friendly, grade II listed cottage

Set in the heart of rolling Devonshire countryside, within a 2000 acre estate, and close to the Devon and Cornwall border, the fabulous Swallow Barn offers two guests rustic blissful escapism from the pace of everyday life.

This beautifully designed Grade II listed Barn was converted approx. 20 yrs ago and we have welcomed guests for around 17 of those years. It is furnished in a farmhouse style with exposed beams, stripped floors and cosy furnishings. The classic wood burning stove adds to the romantic feel of the cottage and ensures a warm welcome home in colder months. The stunning vaulted bedroom has a super king-size bed and is equipped with plasma TV. The bathroom has a lovely deep tub, deluge shower and two sinks.

Swallow Barn is a dog-friendly holiday cottage, set within five acres of rolling surrounding countryside. The cottage garden and courtyard are completely secure, simply perfect for dogs. The cottage has a private parking space and an independent entrance. Best of all you can relax in the secluded courtyard, glass of wine (or the farm's homemade cider) in hand, and enjoy the surrounding private, far-reaching vista of the countryside. It's the perfect backdrop for a cosy break away together.

There are plenty of fabulous local walking spots in Roadford Lake and we are only 6 miles from Bren Tor and the glories of Dartmoor. There is a great little pub within walking distance, and also Lewtrenchard Manor, just 2.5 miles away, which has 2 AA rosettes.

If you prefer dining at home then the award winning farm shop, Strawberry Fields is just down the road in Lifton and is packed with an abundance of products.

Meet the owner

Sue & Simon Chaplin

We have lived in this peaceful part of Devon for almost 20 years. Swallow Barn was converted approx. 20 yrs ago and we have welcomed guests for around 17 of those years. The Barn is the only building converted here and has complete privacy. Simon is a retired GP. His hobby is fishing in between maintaining the 5 acres we have for Sue's Dressage horses. We hope you enjoy this delightful part of Devon as much as we do.
