Luxury cottage with enclosed garden and hot tub

Completed in 2021, the Burrows is a new and luxurious 5 star holiday cottage in rural Essex with far-reaching views over our family farm, yet also within 5 miles of the coast and its sandy beaches. With four bedrooms, it is ideal for family gatherings or groups of friends with superb, entertaining spaces and al fresco dining. There is ample parking for 2-3 cars right outside on the private driveway and just a 2 minutes walk from our onsite facilities - the Barn Cafe, the Pink Parrot Pottery Studio and Eclipse Photography - with our fishing reservoir just a little further.

There are two family friendly pubs, train station, a takeaway and local shops within a mile. Historic Colchester with its grand Roman castle plus award winning Colchester zoo make great days out and with London an hour's reach by train or seaside resorts like Clacon-on-sea nearby there is plenty to keep everyone happy.

Through the front door, there is plenty of storage for coats and shoes and underfloor heating is welcome during the colder months through the wooden oak floors. The living room hosts an oak framed fireplace with log buring stove, reclining sofas and a bay window with a cushioned spot to enjoy the afternoon sun with a good book. The seperate games room has a sofa, beanbag and cushions - a place to chill out or play on the Wii games station. There is a selection of books, games and activities for all ages and a huge wall map of the county to plan your days out. 

Expect an explosion of light when entering the kitchen which comes mainly from the expanse of the bifold doors showing uninterupted views of the patio, garden and farmland beyond. This perfect cooking and entertaining space combines clean lines and functionality with intergrated appliances under the Quartz worktops plus ample storage, a generous fridge/freezer and wine cooler, sectional recycling storage, breakfast bar, sofa and TV. The stylish monchrome dining room has customised padded bench seating, table and chairs for 8 - plenty of space to seat friends and family together.

The double doors from the dining room open onto the patio with garden furniture, sun loungers and a gas barbecue. However for your ultimate indulgence take a dip in the large multiseater hot tub with 65 jets and powerful hydromassagers. This is the most energy efficient and quietest tub on the market with bluetooth speakers and LED lighting to get the mood just right. The garden itself, safe and enclosed for the very young, is great for outdoor play and games and can be utilised day and night with the patio and flower beds illuminated after dark.

Upstairs off the landing are the bedrooms. Two rooms command farm views; the master room has a king-size bed, fitted wardrobes, TV and an en suite shower room; across the landing is another sunny double room with fitted wardrobes. This room is adjacent to the family bathroom which like the en suites is fully tiled, has a vanity unit and heated towel rail. The front facing double room is complete with a TV, wardrobe and en suite shower room allowing plenty of space for a travel cot if required. The fourth bedroom has 2 single beds, fitted wardrobes and like all the bedrooms a dressing table and stool. Expect qulity bed linens, mattresses and pillows, fluffy towels and cushions for a comfortable sleep.

The Burrows also has plenty of essential equipment for families with babies and young children, freeing up your car and making your arrival a much smoother experience. We can have it all out ready leaving you free to relax and start enjoying your holiday together.

Expect a welcome tea tray and comprehensive welcome folder with local information and guides to help you make the most of your stay. The property is strictly no smoking and no pets. Assistance dogs - please enquire. For guests with limited mobility please note there are no downstairs bedrooms however it is all on a level threshold with a downstairs cloakroom.

Fiona Morton

Fiona and David live on the 100 acre family farm with their 4 children and 2 rescue dogs. David is a fourth generation farmer producing wheat, oil seed rape and onions with an extensive plum and greengage orchard and carp fishing reservoir; it was his grandparents who brought the farm back in 1912. In 2012 we lovingly and painstakingly converted our old, black boarded Essex barn into a café and holiday let (The Hayloft). Attracting guests from all over the world, The Hayloft has been a great success with all the family helping out at busy times. We have also welcomed new businesses Eclipse photography and The Pink Parrot pottery studio to the farm in recent years too. Using our experience of running The Hayloft helped us equip our new holiday cottage The Burrows into not only a luxurious, contemporary space but somewhere practical and comfortable with everything guests need for a relaxing stay. Its chic interiors and features are coupled with a private hot tub and large garden ideal for larger friends or family groups. Living on site we are close at hand if needed and we love sharing our knowledge of the local area to help guests have a truly wonderful stay
