About & Contact

Peaceful, rural luxury cottage for couples

The Gamekeeper's Cottage is situated down a 1/4 mile track from the lane, adjacent to the owners house. The cottage has its own private garden with a wood-fired hot tub, sun loungers and patio table & chairs. It is surrounded by fields, woodland and the owners garden.

On arrival, you will see home-made bread and cake as well as all the ingredients for a full English breakfast, or continental breakfast, for your first morning. There will also be pizza dough in the freezer to make home-made pizza in the pizza oven as well as oils and dried herbs for cooking.

The cottage offers couples the opportunity to unwind and relax in and around the cottage or explore the local neighborhood. The cottage has a king-size bed in the bedroom with a pocket sprung mattress, there is the choice of feather and down bedding or hypoallergenic bedding with 100% cotton bedding. The cottage has underfloor heating with controls in each room and a wood-fired burner in the sitting room with all logs supplied. The bathroom offers a shower and a separate double ended roll top bath with Neals Yard toiletries supplied for enjoying a relaxing bath. The sitting room has French doors that open out onto the patio area with views across to the woodland.

In the evening enjoy sitting out by the fire pit and listen to the owls and the wildlife around the you. You can often see deer, hares, hedgehogs and a variety of birds around the cottage too. The wood-fired hot tub will be heated up for your arrival and we will show you how to set it for when you want to use it next. It is the ideal place to watch the sunset and hear the owls. All logs are supplied for the hot tub.

We have three pubs a short drive from the cottage all offering different cuisine, from tapas to traditional pub food.

The cottage is the ideal place for exploring Dartmoor and the north Devon/Cornwall coast as we are half an hour from both. RHS Rosemoor is 15 minutes from the cottage and the Tarka Trail is 5 minutes in the car or 10 minutes on the bike where you can cycle to Barnstaple or go for walks to Yarde cafe for a coffee and cake. You can also hire bikes from the Puffing Billy cafe which is around 15 minutes from the cottage and there are also places to hire bikes near Okehampton to cycle the granite way.

Further afield you can explore the Eden project, get the train from Okehampton and travel to Exeter or head down to Port Isaac and see where Doc Martin was filmed, the Fisherman's Friends originated from and enjoy Nathan Outlaw's wonderful restaurants.

Meet the owner

Debbie and Des Pluss

We live on site with our 2 dogs, 2 cats and chickens and are around most days. We have lived in our Grade II listed cottage for the past 8 years and have slowly worked on the cottage and garden. Des runs his travel business from the office and Debbie grows cut flowers in her cutting patch which supplies the cottage and local businesses with fresh seasonal flowers. We love living in our little piece of Devon heaven and hope to welcome you too.
