About & Contact

16th Century barn providing luxury accommodation

Situated amongst rolling hills in South West Essex, just six miles from Epping, The Great Barn at Burrows is a splendid 5 Star Gold awarded restoration of a 16th Century Barn, providing luxury accommodation and entertainment facilities for 10 guests in 5 bedrooms.

Having this spacious accommodation, The Great Barn offers a luxurious venue for family holidays, a get together and special occasions. With many original features, such as oak beams, attractive doorways and vaulted ceilings, the property also embraces modern comforts such as a comprehensive entertainment system, Jacuzzi bathroom, huge reception room with elegant dining facility and a well-equipped kitchen, complete with welcoming Aga – the centrepiece for many visitors to The Great Barn!

Being conveniently located for main access routes and with many places to dine out and visit within easy walking or driving distance, The Great Barn ticks all the boxes as a great venue for family gatherings or elegant reunions for the grown-ups!

The main single storey 'Old Barn' presents elegant dining for all guests as well as the 'sitting' and 'recreational' areas, complete with a comprehensive entertainment centre, including fibre WiFi internet (Up to 100 Mbps), Sky, Blu-ray/DVD/CD, Bluetooth speakers and music players. There is also a pool table and table tennis table.

The guest accommodation sleeps up to 10 in 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, situated on 2 floors in the adjoining barn – the 'New Barn'. The accommodation is ideal for 5 couples or an extended family. A cot is available upon request.

The kitchen is equipped with an oil-fired AGA (2 hotplates, 2 ovens) and attached electric module with two further ovens and an electric hob, an American fridge freezer, dishwasher and breakfast table sitting 6. Off the kitchen is a utility room with sink, washing machine and tumble drier and a South West facing patio.

The main room in the Old Barn has a commercial drinks fridge, two dining tables to seat 10–16 (depending on the configuration), three leather sofas and two swivelling chairs and a games area with table tennis and pool tables.

Leading from the Old Barn, there are double doors onto a raised South West facing decking area, the place to be on a sunny afternoon! Guests have exclusive use of a BBQ area (gas and charcoal) with garden furniture for outdoor dining.

The Great Barn is set within a large external grassed area and there is also a ground floor patio area off the kitchen/utility room, which also connects via a few steps up to the decking area.

The ground floor has a WC, twin bedroom and double bedroom, with shared Jack & Jill bathroom.

Bedroom 1 has a king-size double bed, TV, French windows and Juliet balcony, and with private access to Jack & Jill bathroom with shower. The bathroom is shared with bedroom 2, accessed via separate entrance.

Bedroom 2 is a twin-bedded room with two sleigh beds and a Jack & Jill bathroom with shower, which is shared with bedroom 1.

The staircase leads to a landing from where there are three further bedrooms and two bathrooms. A double bedroom overlooks the Old Barn and is connected to a Jacuzzi bathroom which can also be accessed from the landing. The next bedroom is a twin and the final bedroom on the upper floor is a king-size master bedroom with en suite facilities.

Please note: outside the curtilage of the barn are two sets of ponds, one in front of the adjacent farmhouse and two (not obvious) below the barn. Guests should ensure their children are kept within the designated and fenced areas at all times for their own safety.

The entrance gate from the roadway into the farmyard allows access to the property and there is on-site parking for six cars.

Meet the owner

Jacki Glover

John and Jacki Glover - We have lived next door, in the farmhouse, since 1983 and we work continuously to improve the 12 acres of fields, farmyard and buildings, which started from a very low ebb! We rebuilt the listed barn from top to bottom over 19 years to live in ourselves and we could move in tomorrow. Corners have not been cut and we hope you will be very satisfied guests. We are ably assisted by dedicated residents of the local community. Our three children (John, Michael & Sian) are now grown up and our Granddaughter, Nola, is a frequent visitor. John & Jacki’s lifetime work has revolved around sustainability and working with and to improve the community. In and around the farmhouse we have two cats, two dogs, chickens, squirrels, rabbits, ducks, moorhens and a goose. Around the barn watch out for the rabbits!
