Beautiful 3 bed thatched barn conversion

With our Master Cancel policy, you can cancel for any reason any time from 60 days up to 2 days before the start of your holiday, so you can book with confidence. This doesn’t cover you for the last 2 days before arrival, so we would still recommend that you get UK travel insurance (just in case you were unable to travel at the last minute, due to health reasons for example), but at least it does give peace of mind, and you can book with confidence.

Restored and converted to the highest standards of comfort and utility, this listed and historic farm barn provides a unique base for a rural Devon holiday. The Tithe Barn lies privately within a medieval farmyard on the beautiful and wild South-East side of Dartmoor, yet is only a short walk away from bustling Ashburton. Here you can find all your daily needs of local food and drink, browse unique art and craft shops, explore numerous antique outlets, or just admire the amazingly diverse architecture. The Tithe Barn comprises three large en suite bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. The largest area of the ground floor is a bright and comfortable open plan lounge, dining area and well equipped kitchen, allowing all the visitors to interact whilst the meals are being prepared. In addition, there is a separate utility and drying room at the rear of the property, and a useful ground floor washroom with WC.

This cottage provides a great base for exploring Devon. If you like walking or riding, Dartmoor open moorland paths are just a short drive (or long walk) up the hill. Nearby is the wooded Dart valley with amazing riverside walks to discover. Drives of around 45 minutes will take you to South Devon's beautiful coastline with world-class beaches, rocky headlands, and extensive coastal paths. Drive to the North coast and you will find a different landscape...wide surfing beaches, and impressive cliffs overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean. And everywhere...historic places to explore.

Meet the owner

Jane and Stuart Chambers

We have been restoring, extending and building most of our married life, and this project has certainly been the most challenging. Jane, formerly a health visitor, has raised our three children whilst simultaneously managing much of the building works. She is now looking forward to more time spent on her hobbies of throwing stoneware pottery, gardening, and taking Dartmoor walks with our two dogs. Stuart was formerly a manufacturing manager, but from mid-career taught Operations Management at leading business schools in the UK and Europe. He has continued to do this part-time into his retirement. He also enjoys walks on Dartmoor, but is a keen photographer too. He has a big workshop for on-going projects as they arise. Both enjoy travelling to interesting places they can explore ... their experiences of staying in world-class hotels has influenced the design of The Tithe Barn in many ways.
