The Old Cartshed retains all the original features of this historic barn dating back to 1900 including exposed stone and brick work, oak beams and A frames throughout – yet with all modern day conveniences and comfort. This eco-friendly conversion includes solar panels for heating water, ground source heat pump for central heating (underfloor downstairs) natural eco clay paints, bespoke hand-made, well equipped kitchens, wildflower meadows and herb garden for guests use.
Doorstep footpaths make this a ideal place for a countryside walk – as we are on two national trails marked on the OS maps – these footpaths lead onto the nature trails nearby. Tittesworth Water also has watersports, excellent children's playground, café, shop, picnic area.
There are fine views of The Roaches from the cottages and garden areas, an iconic area of the Peak District and offers a stunning ridgeline walk with spectacular views as well as rock climbing.
Situated between the historic cobbled market town of Leek (5 mins drive) with its 900 year old market charter and the renowned market town of Buxton (15 mins drive) with its special waters and spa facilities, Victorian pavilion gardens and theatre venue Buxton Opera House. Ashbourne is just an easy 20 minute drive and Bakewell (40 mins) is a lovely drive over scenic countryside to see highlights of the Peak District countryside with Dovedale, Ilam, Goyt Valley all nearby offering excellent walks and countryside picnic views.
Bring your bikes, or hire bikes – there are 4 traffic free trails in the area which are flat and great for children and all ages or a gentle walk. Good local pubs and restaurants in the area serving home-cooked local food and ales as well as local food and farmers markets.
Nearby there is such a great choice of things to do and explore including historic Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Gawsworth Hall, National Trust Gardens such as Biddulph Grange. Nearby famous pottery places including Emma Bridgewater, Wedgewood, Burleigh or Spode where you can enjoy a factory tour, plate painting or pick up a bargain in their seconds shops.
Victorian Rudyard Lake, Tittesworth Water and Carsington Water all offer various watersports, walks, biking and fishing. Go underground and discover hidden caverns at nearby Pooles Cavern or the caverns at Castleton. There are 2 golf courses in Leek and another at Buxton with a driving range. Cheddleton Stream Railway offers nostalgic rides through ‘little Switzerland’ countryside. Peak Wildlife Centre and Chatsworth Farm and Adventure Playground are great for children too.
