A remarkable house in an extraordinary location

A warm welcome awaits you at Òran na Mara, a contemporary self-catering house on the beautiful Isle of Harris – the jewel of the Hebrides. This large property is curved to take full advantage of the stunning views.

It overlooks a sweeping white sand beach, hills, islands, sunsets, and the ever-changing turquoise Atlantic ocean. This unique house takes maximum advantage of the incredible views by being curved with floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the main living area. Every room has a different aspect and interior design themed to the specific view from the window. With floor-to-ceiling windows and best-in-class interior design.

These Scottish islands have been voted number 1 in Europe and number 5 in the world by Trip Advisor, and the beaches regularly appear in lists of the best in the world - and rightly so!

This wonderful Scottish coastal retreat is the result of many years of planning, research and design. It was featured on "Homes by the Sea" on Channel 4, was the main feature in Coast magazine, and was described by The Sunday Times as Scotland's most beautiful beach retreat.

The large 5 star house is planned as a contemporary space equipped with luxury facilities, but with traditional local features such as a thatched roof and stone walling - techniques used for over 1,500 years.

It is insulated to the highest standards, and features a peat and wood fire stove in the snug area which divides the dining and living areas. Even the TV has a lift so that it doesn't interrupt the views across the huge living area out to the coast, islands and hills when not in use.

Òran na Mara has flexible space to accommodate a couple, a group of friends, or a family in luxury surroundings. Any or all of the three bedrooms can be configured to suit your needs. All modern luxury brand facilities are in the house for your enjoyment.

Òran na Mara is only let by the full week let with a Saturday changeover day in the main season. From November to February (a wonderful time of year on Harris) we offer short breaks of 3 to 6 days with flexible arrival days.

Paul Honeywell

Paul and Helen Honeywell are the owners of Òran na Mara. This remarkable house is the result of a long relationship with the beautiful Isle of Harris, first visited on their honeymoon in 1977. After being able to buy a piece of land in the perfect location from crofting friends, it took years of planning before the house was designed and built. It was a lifetime's ambition and the result shows attention to detail and love for the environment and beauty of Harris. Living in Northamptonshire, Paul and Helen's daughter Rosie lives on Harris and manages Òran na Mara providing a wonderful guest experience as well as her delicious cake!
