Romantic luxury holiday cottage in the countryside

Dick Turpin cottage is very spacious and welcoming with central heating, a real log fire and double glazing. It was listed as one of The Times newspaper’s '30 cosiest cottages in Britain'. The cottage is set on a hillside in 20 acres of woodland wilderness reserve within the Shropshire Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its hillside position means that the cottage enjoys enviable views of the valley and the rolling Shropshire countryside. Being the only holiday cottage at the property, set well away from any public roads and not overlooked, you can be assured of privacy, peace and seclusion.

The fully-restored, detached building is built of stone and timber under a slate roof. The sympathetic restoration retained many quaint features whilst introducing all of the modern amenities and comforts expected of a five-star gold holiday property, such as free high-speed Wi-Fi internet access. The cottage is approached by a long private drive and there is parking right outside. Built on a hillside, access is via a short flight of steps at the side of the building.

Décor and furnishings are to a very high standard, and care has been taken to make sure you will have everything you could possibly need, beginning with a generous welcome hamper to get your break off to a good start. The living room is spacious and light featuring some unique furniture and works of art. Hand-made by Chelsea firm 'Miracles' in 1978 the specially commissioned sofa and coffee table in beech wood decorated with nocturnal winter scenes of badgers fits well with the oak 'Lamino' chair with sheepskin cover, an award winning chair allegedly the most comfortable available from Sweden.  There is also a large flat screen HD television, DVD player, video, internet/DAB radio, iPod dock and telephone. The recent addition of a Brennan music store and Bose unit all add to satisfy the most demanding of music fans.

A window overlooks glorious countryside and French doors open onto a private terrace with steps leading to an elevated seating area, ideal for relaxing and taking in the beauty of the south Shropshire countryside. In the bedroom is a sumptuous giant bed. Its high quality bed linen and mattress ensure a restful night’s sleep. With a window each side, the room is light and airy. Unusual Swiss fabric wall covering and a glorious encased floral collage make this a special room where guests can enjoy the designer bed linen and superb German duvets and pillows. There’s a flat screen TV and a wardrobe can be found in the adjoining dressing area. The bathroom has plenty of space and offers the unusual choice of a full-sized bath and a separate shower cubicle with power shower. There are bathrobes for two and best quality towels.

The kitchen is fully equipped to a high specification to make self-catering efficient and enjoyable. For cooking there is a ceramic hob, fan oven, a special set of 'Fisler' solid stainless steel 18/10 pans and a full range of utensils. A fridge/freezer and dishwasher complete the thoughtful line-up all designed to make your stay as carefree as possible. A delightful separate cloakroom with pretty round window has a vanity unit and WC. There is also a tiny room housing the washing machine, ironing board, information books and large collection of DVDs and CDs.

Outside the French doors of the living room is a delightful west-facing, sheltered terrace. Why not pop outside and listen to the birds singing as you enjoy your breakfast in the clean Shropshire air? Later you can sunbathe in easy chairs as you sip wine from the complimentary welcome hamper or share a leisurely evening meal in the tranquil outdoor dining area. A climb up through the trees is rewarded with stunning views. The 20 acres of surrounding wilderness area are a haven for wildlife - look out for roe deer and muntjac, badgers and foxes.

Roger Wren

Originally in property development, building offices, hotels and residential developments all over the world, Roger found himself in the restaurant business almost by accident when a property deal included a London restaurant that was left in its entirety, tablecloths and all. For Roger, a food lover and excellent cook with a keen interest in the history of English food, it was too good an opportunity to miss and soon Waltons was born, to be joined by The English Garden, The English House and The Lindsay House, destined to become four of the capital’s top restaurants under Roger’s ownership. He later opened successful restaurants in Hertford and finally Ludlow. Nowadays, Roger applies the same standards of excellence to Dick Turpin Cottage and loves nothing more than to make sure his guests have everything they need, down to the very last detail, so that they can come and enjoy a truly memorable experience.
