02/02/2016
Fans of the new Dad’s Army film out on 5 February can visit some of the key locations featured in the picture on a Premier Cottage break
The film, set in 1944, is directed by Oliver Parker and boasts a stellar cast including: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Gambon, Bill Nighy and Toby Jones. Zeta-Jones, a glamorous journalist, is sent to report on the Home Guard’s exploits but then MI5 discover there is a German Spy hiding in the fictional British town of Walmington-on-Sea. This gives the platoon the chance to make a real difference in the war.
Properties close to the filming locations include:
Field House Farm, Yorkshire
Set in the unspoilt Yorkshire countryside, characterful Field Farm House features original exposed beams, open fires and log burning stoves.
The cast of “Dad’s Army” filmed literally on the doorstep of Field House Farm’s Bempton Farm. The property is also within easy driving distance of Old Town High Street in Bridlington where key scenes such as the bank, the police station, Hodges’ Green Grocers and the parade were shot.
A three-night stay in Field House Farm’s Ostler Corner for six guests costs from £375 and a week’s stay costs from £500. For more information visit www.premiercottages.co.uk or call the owner on 01262 674932.
Castle Howard Station – Platform 1, Yorkshire
Once the jewel in the crown of York-Scarborough railway, Platform 1 is now a Grade II listed building and a luxurious property for two. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, the gorgeous ground floor apartment is close to the beautifully restored Railway Station in Pickering, which features in the opening of the Dad’s Army film.
The station is a great gateway to the market town and guests can enjoy lunch in the traditional railway tearoom. Both Beverley and Bridlington, where further filming took place, are around 35 miles away.
A three-night stay in Castle Howard Station for two costs from £355 and a week’s stay costs from £575. For more information visit www.premiercottages.co.uk or call the owner on 01653 749750.
