Herefordshire has long been considered the land of ‘milk and honey’, famed for its spectacular countryside, historic market towns, picture-book black and white villages and an abundance of artisan makers, foodie destinations and a real passion for celebrating them.
On the border of Wales, Herefordshire is steeped in history and some areas have been left relatively untouched for many years. So if it’s walking, ruins, castles, canoeing, attractions, gardens or family fun, there is something for everyone.
At only 90 minutes travel time from Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff and 2½-3 hours from London, Herefordshire has masses to offer in its beautiful and varied rural undiscovered countryside.
Herefordshire boasts some of the UK’s largest festivals- Ledbury’s Poetry Festival and the prestigious Flavours of Herefordshire Festival. A full calendar across the county includes Herefordshire Country Fair , Bromyard’s Gala and Folk Festival , Leominster’s Victorian Christmas Market, the Contemporary Craft Fair, Borderlines Film Festival and of course the returning triennial presence of the famous Three Choirs Festival. A stunning and historic destination in itself, Eastnor castle near the beautiful market town of Ledbury, also hosts a myriad of events.
The impressive Symonds Yat Rock, the best known view point of the stunning Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, looks out over the meandering River Wye close to Ross on Wye. The county has Walking Festivals from May through to October.
Even if the weather takes a turn, Herefordshire can still keep you entertained from the stunning Cathedral with the Mappa Mundi and the world’s largest chained library to the prominent Black & White House in Hereford City. There is a large selection of eating opportunities, using local ingredients and locally produced drinks.
