Is Christmas just for kids? Not in Cheshire! This vibrant county in the heart of England has plenty of Yuletide fun for all the family, from pantomimes to Christmas fayres, appearances by a jolly man in a red suit through to children’s literature festivals. If you’re planning a luxury cottage break for Christmas this year but want to make sure the little ones have as much fun as you do, then here are a few of our favourite places for a children’s Christmas in Cheshire:
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Across the county, Santa and his team of hardworking elves are putting in guest appearances throughout the festive season, right up to Christmas Eve. He’ll be a guest in Macclesfield, Tatton and Windsford, so check his itinerary to make sure the youngest members of the family get a chance to tell him what they want in their stockings this Christmas! If you want to indulge your creative side then head to Tatton Park at the end of November and throughout December, where you’ll get to meet the man himself, and create your own Yuletide wreath as well.
Pantomimes
It wouldn’t be Christmas without pantomimes, and most towns throughout Cheshire are putting on a variety of events throughout the season.
Visit Narnia
During December you’ll be able to transport to another winter wonderland, with Chester Cathedral’s ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ Exhibition. The key moments of this children’s classic will be recreated throughout December, making it a magical visit for lovers of CS Lewis’ seminal books.
A Tudor Christmas
This is an interesting change from the usual Victorian Christmas themes, and a chance for children that love history to discover how our ancestors spent this time of the year. The Tudor Christmas experience at Little Moreton Hall in Congleton is a unique experience that will entertain and enthral the whole family.
Street Markets and Fairs
Across Cheshire there are dozens of Christmas fairs and street markets, giving everyone a chance to stock up on last-minute presents, be entertained by street performance artists and get a taste of Christmas Past with roasted chestnuts. And as busy as his schedule is around this time of year, Santa tends to put in an appearance at most of these events, so the little ones will be delighted to see him no matter what the weather!
