Woodpecker Cottage is the largest of all the cottages. Detached, luxurious, stone-built, and has seven bedrooms, six of which are en suite, making it especially suitable for groups of six couples and large families.
Standing on the brow of the hill at the top of the seven-acre field, Woodpecker Cottage enjoys panoramic views towards the coast and the Lake District.
The ground floor comprises a fantastic open plan living area with comfortable sofas, a magnificent stone fireplace with a woodburning stove, Sky TV, dining table seating up to 16, a superb designer kitchen with AGA stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, wine cooler, and granite work surfaces. In addition, a fantastic conservatory/ garden room.
There is a cloakroom, plus a utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer. The cottage has underfloor heating, finished with lovely, tiled floors, rugs, contemporary furnishings and decorations.
To the left of the hallway are two spacious bedrooms. The first is a twin bedroom (can be converted in to a super king) with an en suite. The second has a double and a single bed with en suite. Both en suites have a wet-room shower area, which is wheelchair and disabled friendly. In the front bedroom it has a large washbasin that you can actually get a wheelchair under and a large, illuminated mirror that comes down to the basin. We have also installed stylish grab rails by the toilet and a large fold-down seat within the shower.
The first floor comprises a large family bedroom, containing a king-size bed, and a single bed, and an en suite. There are also two double bedrooms – one with an en suite shower room and the other with an en suite bathroom.
The sleeping accommodation is completed by a spacious twin bedroom (with two single beds that can be converted into one super king-size bed on request), with an en suite shower room, plus a small single bedroom especially suitable for a child.
To the rear of the cottage is a raised decked area that has artificial grass, looking out into woodland with outdoor dining furniture and a private garden where you will see and hear the resident woodpeckers! Creating an ideal spot in which to enjoy the afternoon sun and sunsets, there is also a covered outdoor kitchen at the side of the cottage, including pizza oven, barbecue, bar area, fridge, and a huge fire pit built into a seating area at the front which offers great views across to the coast and towards the Lake District.
Only four miles away is the small, pleasant town of Garstang, with many small shops and a weekly market on the High Street every Thursday. Lancaster is just twenty minutes away and is a truly historic city with the Castle and Prison especially worth a visit, along with the Museum, Tropical Butterfly House, Dukes Theatre and summer plays held in Williamson Park.
Fishing is available nearby, and for golf fans, both Royal Lytham and Royal Birkdale are within easy reach and there is a great choice of golf courses available locally.
If you enjoy walking, there are many footpaths and lanes to follow. The popular Nicky Nook and Grizedale Valley walks follow the river through the valley up to the reservoirs. For those who like a break along the way, the nearby village of Scorton with its café, coffee shop and pub, offers a welcome rest and the energy for the uphill walk back.
