Cosy cottage with stunning Devon views at Cadhay

The Cider Press is a delightful cosy cottage on the Cadhay estate. It is a single storey building standing on its own which has been converted into a very comfortable cottage with either a double or twin bedroom. It is spacious, filled with light and has a panoramic outlook to East Hill and the surrounding countryside. It may be our smallest holiday cottage, but you’ll not be short of room inside. There’s a spacious lounge with a woodburner at its heart, great for relaxing in front of after a long day exploring. You will find all of the equipment you would expect from a modern and luxurious holiday cottage, including a well proportioned kitchen/diner.

We created the Cider Press with couples in mind, it’s a great base for the two of you to spend a short break exploring East Devon. There’s a mixture of old world charm and modern creature comforts with plenty of light throughout. The lounge has French doors which open onto your own patio area, with views across East Hill and surrounding countryside, whilst the bedroom has floor to ceiling glazed patio doors. If you fancy a short stroll you have access to the fabulous walled kitchen garden for the main Tudor Manor House.

Cadhay and the whole of East Devon provides you with many great walks, activities, eating places, pubs and attractions to visit with your partner. You can explore the Otter Valley, get away for a long walk on the South West Coastal Path, indulge in a Devon cream tea, enjoy a leisurely pub lunch or just relax on the beach when the sunshines.

The Cider Press is ideal for couples wanting a relaxing break in quiet and peaceful surroundings within the countryside and close to the coast and moors of Devon.

Reviews for The Cider Press at Cadhay

Meet the owner

Rupert Thistlethwayte

The current owner is furniture maker Rupert Thistlethwayte, a direct descendent of the Pouletts whose coat of arms appear above the fireplaces. Over the past decade, he has restored Cadhay to its previous splendour and welcomed 100's of people to stay in his much loved Tudor Manor house or its nearby cottages. Rupert lives nearby on the estate with his partner Caroline and is usually there to greet you in person when you arrive and welcome you to the Cadhay estate. You'll often find Rupert working in the grounds with head gardener Dave and his able assistant Mike or ticking off tasks on a list of jobs given to him by Jayne the house manager. When he has time, Rupert makes beautiful bespoke modern furniture examples of which can be seen in most of our properties. Recently he's taken to electric mountain biking and loves discovering new routes in our stunning local area both in the countryside and along the coast. Rupert looks forward to sharing his wonderful estate with you.
