Derwent Sitting Room

Luxury cottages in the heart of the Peak District

Churchdale Farm offers three luxury holiday cottages that have been thoughtfully converted from old cart sheds, retaining charming beams and natural stone to provide quality spacious accommodation. The sitting rooms all have woodburning stoves to relax by in the evenings and the kitchens are all very well equipped with dishwashers, microwaves, washing machines etc.

After a relaxing sleep, wake up to the sounds of the countryside and stroll for 15 minutes through the fields to the pretty Ashford village, to buy your provisions at the village shop, admire the picturesque “Sheepwash Bridge”, or quench your thirst at one of the pubs.

You can leave your car and walk or cycle on the level, wildflower-strewn Monsal Trail, at the end of our private drive. The area is a treasure trove of history, beauty and gastro experiences. Within 10 minutes drive are Chatsworth and Haddon Hall.

You will be assured of a very warm welcome with a tea tray and fresh flowers. Many of our clients return year after year!

Meet the owner

Sarah Winkworth-Smith

Hello, my name is Sarah and I live at Churchdale Farm with my husband John. Churchdale was previously part of the Chatsworth estate. We are sheep farmers and thoroughly enjoy living in the Peak District. When we bought the farm John spent a great deal of time abroad on business and I wanted to develop a home based business so that I could be at home for the children. Fortunately, we had some old farm buildings which we were able to convert into three charming holiday cottages. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of developing the business and being awarded both the 5 Star Gold Award and the Green Business Tourism Award. Running the cottages is a very varied job including embracing changes in technology, fashion and taste and working closely with the local community. I very much enjoy meeting my guests and talking with them about the wonderful area we live in.
