About & Contact

Luxury Peak District holiday cottage

This upside down, luxury holiday cottage was created from a stone barn - formerly part of the Chatsworth estate. It has a spacious upstairs sitting room with stunning exposed beams and a log burning stove which is perfect for colder months. This cottage is ideal for two couples.

The two delightful bedrooms are accessed from the entrance hall. The master bedroom has light oak furniture, a 5-foot double bed and en suite bathroom with a new large walk-in shower and a bath. The second bedroom, with twin beds, is on the other side of the hall and has the use of the second bathroom, (with over bath shower) accessed from the hall.

Upstairs is a stunning spacious sitting room with old oak beams, one wall retains the original exposed stone, giving the room great rural character.

There is a log burning stove to keep you warm and toasty and a plentiful supply of logs is provided, free of charge. Free WiFi is available throughout the cottage, as well as a Sky Freeview TV and DVD player. The cream painted kitchen breakfast room, off the sitting room, has a Neff electric cooker and ceramic hob, Bosch dishwasher and washer/dryer, large Neff fridge/freezer and a microwave.

Outside the shared lawned area has a picnic table with a sunshade for sunny days when you may wish to dine outside. Our private tarmac drive is half a mile long and lovely for after dinner ambles. There is ample car parking immediately outside the cottage. In an adjoining shed, there is secure bicycle storage and a supply of logs and electric car charging point..

At the bottom of the drive, you can join the famous Monsal Trail and either walk to Bakewell or through the restored tunnel to Monsal Head. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are both a short drive away.

Meet the owner

Sarah Winkworth-Smith

Hello, my name is Sarah and I live at Churchdale Farm with my husband John. Churchdale was previously part of the Chatsworth estate. We are sheep farmers and thoroughly enjoy living in the Peak District. When we bought the farm John spent a great deal of time abroad on business and I wanted to develop a home based business so that I could be at home for the children. Fortunately, we had some old farm buildings which we were able to convert into three charming holiday cottages. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of developing the business and being awarded both the 5 Star Gold Award and the Green Business Tourism Award. Running the cottages is a very varied job including embracing changes in technology, fashion and taste and working closely with the local community. I very much enjoy meeting my guests and talking with them about the wonderful area we live in.
