Rafters is a wonderfully spacious and welcoming barn conversion, with reversed accommodation designed to make the most of its peaceful countryside views. Set in the quiet hamlet of Higher Menadew, it’s the perfect base for families, couples, or small groups to relax, recharge, and explore Cornwall.
The inspiration for its name comes from the impressive galleried first-floor living space — a light-filled, open-plan room with vaulted ceilings, exposed wooden trusses, traditional wooden floors, and a cosy log-burning stove. A large pine farmhouse table (seating ten), fully equipped kitchen, and comfortable sofas make this a brilliant space for cooking, dining, and unwinding together.
Downstairs, you’ll find three attractive bedrooms: a double with en-suite shower room and two twins — all with exposed beams, wooden floors, pocket-sprung mattresses, and pure cotton linen for a restful night’s sleep. The family bathroom features a bath with shower over, and full central heating ensures year-round comfort.
Rafters is ideally located in mid Cornwall for easy access to many of the county’s best-loved attractions: the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock, Charlestown, Mevagissey, Fowey, Padstow, Tintagel Castle, the Camel Trail, and Bodmin Moor — plus the stunning north and south coasts, with their fabulous beaches and unforgettable cliff walks.
On-site facilities include a superb heated indoor swimming pool with private sessions, a well-equipped games room, and a wide range of imaginative outdoor play equipment — including a climbing frame, play tractor, Land Rover, pirate boat, and a large trampoline, plus grassed areas for football and space to roam. Families with younger children will also appreciate the nursery equipment available on request.
There’s also good Wi-Fi and off-road parking.
Great pubs, restaurants, and award-winning fish and chips are all just a short drive away.
Rafters is a fantastic choice for memorable family holidays, relaxing couple’s escapes, or special breaks with friends — combining charm, comfort, and location in one beautiful cottage.
