Excellent Barn Conversions with 15m Indoor Pool


Lilycombe’s three award-wining properties are in the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty yet within easy reach of the World Heritage City of Bath. Lilycombe Farm is ideally placed for attractions such as Longleat, Cheddar, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury and Wells, or you can just walk to the pub for lunch (there is quite a choice). You can then finish off the day in front of a cosy log fire or watching a movie in the cinema.

Jack’s Barn is the biggest cottage, with 5 double bedrooms. Next door is Deerleap, with two double bedrooms and The Garden House has 3 doubles and one twin room. The 6ft double beds have pocket sprung comfort and can also be made up as twin beds. For guests booking all three cottages, total capacity is 22 people (plus a cot or two) and the dining table in Jack’s Barn can seat 22.

Each cottage has its own garden and private parking. There are terraces with tables and chairs for dining outside and barbecues are provided.

The indoor heated pool is a highlight. At 15 metres, it is long enough for serious exercise. The air-conditioned environment makes it comfortable for spectators who can equip themselves with a book and a (plastic) glass of wine. An evening swim can be accompanied by big screen projection of MTV or a movie download.

The countryside around Lilycombe Farm is lovely and there are a number of longer walking routes, including the Mendip Way. A walk to Wells across the (mostly downhill) Mendip Hills takes about 3 hours. There are maps with circular routes, all starting and finishing at your door.

There’s plenty of space at Lilycombe to explore outside, with a 6 acre bluebell wood, where naturalist guests can enjoy watching the badgers and deer, if they get up early enough.

Jane or Richard Clayton

The traditional stone farm buildings at Lilycombe Farm have been carefully restored by owners Jane and Richard Clayton, ensuring that their essential Mendip character has not been lost. Jane and Richard have an interior design business and their design skills are reflected in the quality of the interior furnishings within the properties. They live in the farmhouse, which is not far from the three cottages, but each property is private and self-contained.
