The Stables

A pair of luxurious cottages for two in the Cotswold town of Malmesbury

The Stables at The Rookery is a pair of luxurious cottages for two situated on the edge of the historic Cotswold town of Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

Both cottages are traditional Cotswold stone buildings which have been completely renovated using traditional methods and materials, in keeping with their Grade II listing. The exposed oak lintels and naturally contoured stone walls of The Stables are complemented by the contemporary furnishings and decoration which provide every modern comfort. More contemporary in style, The Coach House is a spacious and airy cottage which has its own private garden and welcomes dogs.

Malmesbury boasts a surprising array of attractions, all of which are an easy walk from The Stables at The Rookery. The highlight of any stay in Malmesbury must be a visit to its beautiful Abbey, dating back to the 7th century.

Westonbirt Arboretum, just 5 miles from Malmesbury, is famed for its superb collection of Japanese Maples and is spectacular all year round.

Also within easy reach are Tetbury, Cirencester, Bath and Bristol, as well as several National Trust properties and of course the glorious Cotswold countryside.

The Stables comprises an open plan living/dining room and kitchen area on the ground floor, with a downstairs bathroom with a roll-top bath and over-bath shower. The stairs lead up to a galleried bedroom with king-size bed under the eaves, made up with Egyptian cotton bedlinen and a Hungarian goose down duvet (a microfibre duvet is available on request).

The Coach House kitchen seats and dines up to four people, so that two couples staying in both cottages can eat together, while having their own space and privacy at other times. The downstairs bedroom in the Coach House has a king-size bed and double doors leading out to the private garden. Stairs lead up to a galleried sitting room.

The kitchens are impressively equipped with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and practically every implement you could need.

Both cottages have downstairs bathrooms, complete with roll-top baths and over-bath showers.

A glazed door leads out to the Stables' own patio area, where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a candlelit evening meal under the stars. There are steps up to the large traditional walled garden of the main house (complete with centuries-old apple trees and a well) which guests are welcome to enjoy. The Coach House has its own private garden with outside seating and dining.

We provide that little bit extra in our cottages. When you arrive, you will be greeted with a welcome tray laden with home-made Aga cakes from The Rookery kitchen and a variety of local produce including wine from the Bow-in-the-Cloud vineyard at nearby Garsdon. We offer a selection of luxury toiletries for our guests, as well as fluffy white towels and extra long bathrobes, all from The White Company. Free WiFi access is provided, along with full hi-definition Freesat TV and Blu-ray/DVD player.

A big plus for all our guests is that the cottages are owner-run; indeed we live just next door. We are on hand to welcome you and help you to make the most of your holiday by recommending excellent places to eat and enjoyable excursions.

We very much look forward to hearing from you soon, and sharing this wonderful little piece of the Cotswolds with you.
