About & Contact

A stunning full-height barn conversion

These old Stables originally housed the working 'heavy horses' on the farm. Visually stunning, as you walk through the vast door, the central space is full height from floor to raftered ceiling.

Two rustic, open plan staircases lead to mezzanine floors either side - one to a sitting room and the other to a twin bedroom, with the beds tucked under the eaves. Downstairs there is the main bedroom with a double bed and en suite shower room, a further twin bedroom and family bathroom. The fully fitted kitchen, large dining area and a further cosy sitting area completes the downstairs space with it's door to the garden. Antique pine furniture, comfortable sofas and beds, complement the colour-washed walls to give a country feel.

Everyone's welcome to help with morning animal feeding - children especially enjoy feeding the pigs and chickens, herding the ducks and playing with our pygmy goats. And, if they've still got energy to burn, head to our play barn.

We’re easy to get to and a great base for exploring Cornwall and Devon. Only nine miles from the pretty seaside town of Bude and two miles from the sea and adjoining an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the farm is a peaceful haven surrounded by beautiful countryside.

There are six beaches within 15-20 minutes drive; wide sandy beaches and secluded coves that are excellent for surfing, sunbathing, rock-pooling or making sandcastles. The South West Coast Path provides outstanding walking and dramatic views, local stables offer riding for all ages and abilities, and cyclists can explore quiet lanes and trails from the farm.

Explore National Trust Properties, RHS gardens, beautiful fishing villages, like Clovelly or Appledore, and ancient sites like Tintagel. Or take a boat trip out to Lundy Island to see puffins, seals, and dolphins. With easy access to the Atlantic Highway (A39), destinations like Padstow, Newquay or the Eden Project are well within reach, and Exmoor, Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are accessible for a wild day out.

Thrill-seekers are spoilt for choice, with abseiling, climbing, coasteering, kayaking, wakeboarding, sailing, paddleboarding and zorbing all on the doorstep. For a more relaxing outdoor experience, try cycling the family-friendly Tarka Trail or take the Camel Trail to Padstow and the award-winning Camel Valley vineyard.

The mild climate makes this part of the Cornwall coast ideal for holidays all year round. Even winter has its special charm with spectacular starry skies and dramatic sunsets over the rugged coast to the sea.

Reviews for Stables at West Woolley Farm

Meet the owner

Richard and Christina Johnson

Richard and Christina took over West Woolley Farm in 2019. After living many years in the South East and abroad, they were drawn to North Cornwall by the spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches and relaxed way of life. They also liked the fact that West Woolley Farm is easy to get to for their guests (and family) and is an ideal base to explore everything that this special part of the world has to offer. One of the best things about running the farm is introducing their youngest guests to their friendly animals and watching them grow in confidence during their stay. People appear to have more time for each other at West Woolley and Richard and Christina love chatting with their guests, doing what they can to make their holiday enjoyable, whether its advice on what's going on locally, the nearest beaches or the best places to eat.
