Suffolk

While Suffolk maybe one of the UK’s smaller counties, it packs an awful lot in inside its borders. Its most obvious attraction is its impressive landscape. The scenery is relatively flat with few hills, giving it a uniquely expansive feel. The Suffolk Heaths and Coast are truly spectacular and have been designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, giving plenty of opportunity for walkers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts to explore the miles of footpaths and bridleways. In addition, Suffolk has its own marshy wetlands where visitors can get a different perspective on its stunning backdrop from the tranquility of a boat.

Small Towns with Big Characters

Aldeburgh is one of the best examples of the how this county is stuffed full of surprises. On the face of it Aldeburgh is a small, picturesque, seaside town. Its beautiful beach is ideal for soaking up the sun and its array of small shops offers quirky, hand-crafted goods in abundance. However, visit in June and you’ll find the streets swamped with musicians, actors and artists as part of its Festival of Music and Arts. If that wasn’t enough, it’s also home to a small museum that traces local history back to Anglo-Saxon times.

Sutton Hoo is one of the county’s most famous attractions - a Saxon burial site peppered with burial mounds and latticed with underground chambers and one of the most important Saxon sites in Europe.

Family Fun

For a fun day out with all the family, there’s no better stop-off than the Pleasure Beach at Great Yarmouth. Even if this isn’t your sort of thing, it’s well worth a visit, as many of the rides have some historical value – especially the old, wooden rollercoaster that dates back to 1932.
