LUXURY HOLIDAY COTTAGES IN WALES
Surging northwards from the capital city of Cardiff, Wales is a land of rugged valleys, scenic mountains and extraordinary coastlines, with a rich national culture, many outdoor adventure opportunities, and a fierce pride in its own food.
At its heart lie some of the UK’s loveliest countryside, from the arch panorama of Snowdonia’s mountain ranges to the walkable heights of the Brecon Beacons, the rugged Pembrokeshire coast where swimming, kayaking, and surfing flourish, and the remote Llyn Peninsula, in the north west, filled with protected natural areas. In the south west, the Gower Peninsula offers much quiet charm, the first area in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Urban liveliness is more obvious in the south where Swansea is famed for its nightlife and attractions such as the Dylan Thomas Centre, while Cardiff is home to many national museums. The city has also blossomed in recent years, thanks partly to the development of Cardiff Bay with its array of bars, restaurants and attractions such as the Millennium Centre, one of Europe’s leading performing arts venues.
Good Welsh-produced food is now found in many areas, particularly market towns such as Abergavenny which stages a large, annual food festival complimenting its Michelin-starred restaurant. There are restaurants of similar rank at Llandrillo, Machynlleth and Whitebrook. The Welsh language adds a further twist of interest, particularly in north and western regions such as Gwynedd, Conwy and North Pembrokeshire. And for the literary, Hay on Wye in mid-Wales is a famous book-town.
