Spring Cottage Breaks

The dull winter days and long, dark nights can take a real toll on our mood and happiness. So as soon as the first daffodils start nodding their heads and the primroses pop up, it’s a sure sign that spring is on the way. Warmer days, those unexpected heatwaves that send us all flocking to the beach, and the excuse to start eating ice-cream again is a welcome relief from the cold, wet days of winter.

So as spring is just around the corner, shake off those winter blues by looking forward a couple of months.  Now is the perfect time to book a luxury cottage break to look forward to, especially for those half-term and Easter holiday breaks. So what’s on offer?

Spring Food Festivals

Across the country, spring festivals, events and shows mark the start of the season. One of the biggest draws for any region are festivals celebrating the local produce and food, and food festivals are a great way to immerse yourself in a region. These run throughout the year, but during the spring look out for the Morecambe Food and Drink Festival in April, or the Chester Food, Drink and Lifestyle Festival, also held at the beginning of the month. Both of these tie in nicely with Easter.

Down in the South West the Exeter Festival of Food and Drink is an annual week-long event that draws in the very best of Westcountry delicacies, as well as giving you an opportunity to explore the Roman city of Exeter at the same time.

Safe Beaches

The spring heralds warmer days and warmer seas, so it’s time to head for the beach. For families, this is still the most popular destination for a spring break. By the time you grab your spot on the sand in April and May the water quality will be at its best. RNLI lifeguards also come on duty from Easter onwards, so you know your family is safe and protected too.

Spring is Bursting Out All Over…

If there’s one thing we associate with spring, it’s flowers. Down in Cornwall (where the climate tends to be a little milder and the seasons arrive a little earlier than elsewhere), the Cornwall Garden Society Spring Flower Show at the spectacular Boconnoc Estate, Lostwithiel is a riot of colour. But if you want to head away from the madding crowds then go off the beaten track and discover some of the country’s best bluebell woods on the South Downs, or entire carpets of daffodils in the Lake District.

The UK is one of the most diverse, beautiful and – especially during the spring – spectacular countries in the world. As soon as the weather starts to warm up, that’s your cue to book a luxury cottage for a week, and then go out and explore.
