The 8 Best Child Friendly Holidays in the UK

From child-friendly cottages to stunning destinations and fun-filled attractions across the country, this guide should help inspire you to find your next favourite family holiday in the UK.

So if you are looking for something to save to your wishlist, here are some fabulous ideas for child-friendly holidays in the UK:

1. DEVON

Even in the rain, there's a variety of fun things to do with the kids in Devon - one of the best being the beautiful and wild Dartmoor National Park, which is a haven for families who enjoy a good walk. Dartmoor is also steeped in history, and it inspired Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles, so budding storytellers will thrill at the atmosphere, and children will love the otter sanctuary and castle. Some of the best beaches in the UK can be found in Devon too, many of which are very child-friendly, such as Bantham Beach, Woolacombe, Westward Ho!, Croyde and the ever-lovely Combe Martin.

2. CORNWALL

From wonderful beaches and harbour towns to farm stays, as well as so much to discover and explore – you really can’t go wrong with visiting Cornwall with toddlers. Our baby friendly luxury cottages offer a huge amount of kit for babies, freeing you loads of boot space. Make the most of Cornwall's variety of gorgeous beaches by booking a coastal cottage that's within walking distance of a beach. If you would rather stay close to home, why not book a cottage with fantastic family-friendly facilities? We have cottages with play areas, including soft play that’s open all day, indoor swimming pools, games rooms and more.

3. COTSWOLDS

The Cotswolds provide an excellent choice if you're searching for the perfect region for a toddler-friendly holiday. Quite simply, there is as much or as little to see and do - from exploring the Cotswold Water Park to eating cream teas and ice-creams in pretty historic villages, feeding penguins and getting to see lots of cool motorcars. We have a wonderful choice of family-friendly cottages in the Cotswolds, many of which are located near to a variety of family-friendly activities and sites so you can still experience a family-friendly holiday and luxury at the same time. If you're thinking of visiting with the kids, then make sure to head to Westonbirt Arboretum with its TreeTop Walkway and Gruffalo walk - the perfect place for little ones to burn off some steam.

4. DORSET AND THE JURASSIC COAST

With over 95 miles of coastline, the Jurassic Coast in Dorset stretches from Exmouth in Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset and spans a staggering 185 million years of geological history. Not only is there the promise of fossil hunting and dinosaurs, but beautiful family-friendly Premier Cottages, attractions and breathtaking landscapes. Experience a road trip along the spectacular Jurassic Coast and discover many of the fantastic sights along the way – all the while, base yourselves in a stunning child-friendly cottage. Another fabulous Dorset attraction that the kids will love is Peppa Pig World at Paulton's Park in the New Forest National Park. Or you can head to Monkey World, Farmer Palmer's Farm Park, The Dinosaur Museum, or Moors Valley Country Park and Forest.

5. LAKE DISTRICT

The fact that the Lake District has been awarded UNESCO Heritage status isn’t the only reason why the Lake District is a must-visit destination for a family holiday in the UK. You will be blown away by the sheer beauty of the natural surroundings which is made up of picturesque lakes, mountains, national parks and charming villages and towns. It is a sight to behold, and there is so much to do, even with young children and babies. The World of Beatrix Potter™ is a must-visit if you are heading to the Lake District on a child-friendly holiday. The fantastic family attraction brings to life Beatrix Potter’s enchanting stories, with an exhibition featuring characters from the famous books. There's also an award-winning outdoor Peter Rabbit Garden, a character-themed family-friendly café, and world-famous gift shop so the children can experience all the magic!

6. PEAK DISTRICT

The Peak District is a fantastic choice for a child-friendly holiday in the UK. National Trust Ilam Park and Dovedale are great for mini-adventures, giving children the chance to walk along the tree stump trail, roll down hills, paddle, cross the famous stepping stones and make the most of the flat and pushchair friendly walk to delightful Dovedale. Meanwhile, Alton Towers, including CBeebies Land, is under 10 miles away. Matlock Bath has Gulliver’s Kingdom, another toddler-sized theme park. Peak Wildlife Park is the perfect size for little ones to get close to animals from meerkats to penguins. RSPB reserve Coombe Valley was recently voted a Hidden Gem by Visit Britain, it has dens, fairy villages, tree walkways and pond dipping to break the walking up.
