The wilds of ancient Exmoor; spectacular rugged coastline; sandy coves; huge surfing beaches. All are close to lovely Coulscott - an historic private hamlet, with stunning views, tucked into a secluded wooded valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Woolacombe, just 20 minutes away has consistently been voted as Britain's Best Beach (Sunday Times, 2021).

There are no other houses in the estate. Just our letting properties. All are old and full of character but converted to modern standards of luxury. Two are wings of Coulscott House itself. One is medieval with beams and a listed staircase. The other is grand Georgian - built at a time of prosperity two centuries ago. These can be taken together as Coulscott House linked by a secret door through a bookcase. Three exquisite smaller cottages are converted from old farm buildings around a pretty courtyard. Our second largest property is the mouth-wateringly luxurious Old Barn with its stone-flagged, Aga-equipped kitchen, and huge, galleried living room.

We know the importance of a restful night's sleep to a good holiday. All our beds have superb pocket-sprung Memory Foam mattresses. All double beds are king-sized or bigger - many are four-posters. We aim for spotlessness in our properties and are generous with crisp clean sheets, and plenty of good quality towels and toiletries.

We have a beautiful indoor pool kept toasty all year round. All houses have outdoor hot tubs placed to enjoy spectacular views. We have children’s play area indoors and outdoors with trampoline, swings, soft play and lots more. We have 16 acres of grounds with woodland, meadows, streams and ponds. We are home to all manner of wildlife including badgers, foxes and buzzards. We have a huge, fenced animal enclosure with alpacas, ducks, chickens, peacocks, pigs, and even goats - not forgetting the guinea pigs perfect for a cuddle.

We have fast 22KW EV chargers on site exclusively for our guests use.

Combe Martin village is a mile away. It has a lovely, sheltered beach, famous for its rock pools, together with shops, pubs, and a museum. It has a rich history and lively events including a yearly carnival.

Exmoor National Park is just up the hill, half a mile away. It has cliffs (England’s highest), small bays, lovely walks, wildlife, wooded coombes, prehistoric remains, ancient castles and churches and unspoilt small towns and villages.

There are miles and miles of huge wide sandy beaches just 20 minutes away – brilliant for surfing. There is trendy Croyde; miles-long Woolacombe and vast, usually deserted, Saunton Sands with its internationally famous dune Nature Reserve.

There are lovely small towns all around with full modern facilities but also with their own unique attractions. Lovely Lynton and Lynmouth linked by a water driven cliff railway. Pretty Ilfracombe with its picturesque harbour now the setting for Damien Hirst’s massive statue – love it or hate it you must see it. Barnstaple with its famous Pannier Market, Bideford with it’s ancient bridge.

There are so many attractions and activities nearby. Zoo, wildlife park, castles, museums, stately homes, gardens, riding, golf, surfing, sailing, boat trips, fishing, walking, theatres, cinemas, restaurants and much more.

All our properties are non-smoking. We are happy to take well-trained, strictly controlled and nice-natured dogs. We can provide cots, highchairs, bed guards and whatever we can to help. All properties are centrally heated with Smart TVs, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine (in laundry room for the smaller cottages) and more.

We constantly improve our properties, facilities and grounds. When you read this, they will be better still! Our website has masses of information, photos and plans and is constantly updated. We would rather you read it before booking so you know all about Coulscott which we believe, can provide the setting for a happy and relaxing holiday or special celebration. Many choose Coulscott for a special birthday or anniversary weekend with their friends and family - an ideal opportunity to book Coulscott's fine-dining private chef who can cook up a wonderful 3 course meal or 7 course taster menu paired with delicious wines while you sip a glass of bubbly in front of the log burner - and of course he does the washing up!

Meet the owners of Coulscott House Holiday Cottages

Alice East

I moved to Coulscott with my husband Luke and our two children, Ella and Daniel, in 2021. Having relocated from Surrey to this 16-acre pocket of North Devon countryside. As a family we share the estate with over 50 feathered & furry residents - a charming brood of alpacas, goats, guinea pigs, lambs, pigs, chickens and ducks. I live on site, so am here to help if you need me, but are far enough away that you don’t have to see me all week if you don’t want to! Keen to offer our guests a holiday to remember rather than just a place to stay, I make sure our guests have everything they might need at their fingertips, from the nearest surf school to our fabulous private chef, local brewers and artists whose works are proudly displayed in our cottages. I continue to invest in and evolve the business by adding new or improved features all the time. I look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful corner of North Devon.
