Welcome to Crag House Farm an ancient Grade ll listed Yorkshire Longhouse and Barns, a little gem hidden away in the beautiful North York Moors National Park.

Not a complex just two beautiful detached sandstone barns, each cottage is set within its own large private south facing enclosed gardens with uninterrupted views across Danby Dale to the Heather Moorland beyond.

Covered patios for alfresco dining, decorated and sympathetically lit to lend an air of tranquillity and ambience, great party spaces and the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine, let the children carry on their fun and games on the lawn with just an audience of friendly local sheep.

Once inside you’ll instantly get the ‘wow’ factor and know why these barns have each been awarded the prestigious National Park Design Award. Modern eco comfort, geothermal underfloor warmth, green oak meets ancient … not many bedrooms have an original sandstone pillar at the foot of the bed, Dale View does, supporting an ancient beam and joists.

Generous 25ft and 30ft sitting rooms with chill out galleries above create a feeling of space and tranquillity with uncluttered, tasteful interiors - no chi chi here - beautiful sandstone, amazing glazing, UE Boom speakers, John Cullen lighting and Bo Concept Sofas.

Up to the mark kitchens are a joy from which to prepare and cook your family meals, we can recommend an excellent local caterer who will come in and cook up a storm for you, they’ll take the washing up home too! Gather round the lovely big antique dining tables and plan the new days activities or reflect on the day just gone. With generous utility rooms to boot, families are able to stay comfortable and organised. Next consider a long hot bubbly soak in a huge Victorian double rolltop bath or maybe take a rainfall shower, Dale View wet room even offers disco lighting! And so to bed. Brass bedsteads made in England by the Cornish Bed Company, crisp cotton sheets, Designer Guild bedding atop a deep luxury cosy mattress, the finest Yorkshire air and you’ll have the best of sleeps possible!

With great walks straight from your doorstep stride out across the valleys, dales and moors, stroll along our gated road into the villages of Castleton or Danby, have a pint with the locals and learn the art of Quoits. Highly recommended is the nearby North York Moors National Park Information Centre in Danby chock full of local information on all the best to see and do throughout North Yorkshire, aren't we lucky!

A 10 mile car journey and you’re at the Yorkshire seaside, a Heritage Coast with both National Trust and National Park status! Enjoy Victorian Saltburn, Scarborough, the quaint fishing villages of Staithes, Runswick  and Robin Hood’s Bay. Visit Whitby with its picturesque Dracula famous tumbledown abbey, sandy beaches, boutique shopping and scrumptious fish & chips.

Our Market town of Helmsley is a foodie’s delight with lots of delicious tea rooms, artisan deli’s and close by Michelin starred restaurants.

Malton, Hovingham and Pickering are also steeped in Yorkshire history with castles, stately homes and farmers markets to enjoy.

The world famous North Yorkshire Moors railway steams along 18 miles of stunning scenery through the moors and dales from Pickering to Whitby.

From this glorious location Castle Howard, Rievaulx and Fountains Abbey, Go Ape, segway & cycling in Dalby Forest, Flamingoland theme park, pony trekking and the historic city of York can all be part of your Yorkshire holiday experience.

Liz Nightingale

Danny and Liz welcome you to Crag House Farm, a grade ll listed sandstone Yorkshire Longhouse and barns set within 25 acres in the North York Moors National Park. For 30 years Crag House Farm has been home to our family of 4 boys and on occasions the ‘extended family’ of ponies, pigs, calves, lambs, chickens, turkeys and ducks - A bit of the Good Life. When the boys left home the barn conversions were a great project to fill that empty nest syndrome! Listed buildings in a National Park with bats was a challenge and kept Liz busy! Our family now boasts 6 grandchildren the latest baby Nightingale was born in December. Horses still figure largely in our lives and so you are very likely to meet some if you holiday here! Danny and I live across the green in the farmhouse, on hand to help or recommend if requested.
